Leslie Fry, Untitled (Cuffed 4), bronze fantastical sculpture of female hand
Located in New York, NY
A 2023 recipient of the Vermont Governor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts, Leslie Fry is represented in this show with fantastical sculptures of female hands, titled the “Cuffed” series. Tensely poised and mannered gestures, inspired by Parmigianino and Caravaggio, cascade into blooms and barnacles, creating a mesmerizing visual dissonance. This elision of romance and rigidity both draws attention to the limitations of the female form and liberates it from the constraints of reality. Leslie Fry’s works have been exhibited internationally at such venues as Kunsthaus in Hamburg, Zwitscher Machine Gallery in Berlin, Hangaram Art Museum in Seoul, Windspiel Galerie in Vienna, Couvent des Cordeliers in Paris, Artists Space and Wave Hill in New York, deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum near Boston, and Centre des Arts Visuels in Montreal. Her public sculptures have been commissioned in New York, South Korea, Montreal, Florida, Wisconsin, and Vermont; public collections include Tufts University, Songchu International Sculpture Park, Freehand New York, Kohler Arts Center, Tampa Museum of Art, Fleming Museum of Art, Musée d’art de Joliette, and St. Petersburg, Florida’s Museum of Fine Arts. Fry’s M.F.A. is from Bard College, and her B.A. is from the University of Vermont, with a Foundation year at the Central School of Art in London. She currently lives and works in Winooski, VT. Artist Statement: #1 My hands reach, touch, and shape. Hands let go and receive; they try to hold things and to hold things together. The Missing Piece
Located in Belfast, GB
The Missing Piece is a bronze artwork suitable for inside or outdoor display. Pollock is referencing life in with the crow and the puzzle piece. "I never limit myself to one subject or style of work and can never say where the work will go next, which makes it exciting for myself and I hope for the viewer. I like the fact that bronze is so permanent, a bronze sculpture is going to be around forever." - Pollock (2019) Dublin born sculptor Ian Pollock is primarily a self-taught artist who has spent his career working in the Cast Foundry in the Liberties area of Dublin. Working exclusively in bronze, Pollock has worked with art ever since he was a young child. His work is a three dimensional diary of his daily existence. His bronzes are cast using a 'cire perdue' (lost wax) method in ceramic shell moulds. In the pursuit of excellence, he has compiled meticulous craftsmanship in the medium of bronze sculpture. Inspiration for his sculptures comes from aspects of daily life, Pollock sees his work 'as a three dimensional diary' of his life; "I never limit myself to one subject or style of work and can never say where the work will go next, which makes it exciting for myself and I hope for the viewer. I like the fact that bronze is so permanent, a bronze sculpture is going to be around forever". Pollock has exhibited and sold his work throughout Ireland and the UK; including the Oireachtas, RHA, and the RUA (where he won the Mullan Prize for sculpture in 2003). Pollock's work can be found in the collections of the Office of Public Works and University College Dublin, as well as many private collections in Europe and the USA. Large commissions include an eleven foot flight of birds for Largy College in Clones, Co. Monaghan, along with many life size private commissions. Pollock continues to exhibit with Gormleys Gallery...

Kossack
Located in Los Angeles, CA
This sculpture is part of our exhibition America Coast to Coast: Artists of the 1930s Kossack, c. late 1930s, polychromed cedar and walnut relief sculpture, carved signature under the base of the figure, 15 x 8 x 3 1/2 inches (figure), 10 x 19 inches (board), exhibited at Zeidler's solo exhibition at the San Francisco Museum of Art, November - December, 1942 (label verso), label verso reads "Kossack / cedar & walnut / Avis Zeidler" About the Sculpture Kossack is typical of Aviz Zeidler’s direct carved wood sculptures of the 1930s. The subject looks directly at the viewer, unfeeling behind a polychromed stare. Seemingly influenced by two of her major teachers, California’s Ralph Stackpole and New York’s William Zorach, Zeidler drew on primitive traditions to create what one critic described as her “gruesome wood sculptures.” Rigid, solid, and unmoving are other words that characterize Zeidler’s statues which often seem to have the deeply rooted ancient power of a totem. Zeidler’s “grimacing artificiality does, indeed, manage to hold a sense of force,” is how The San Francisco Examiner art critic put it in 1938 when describing the artist’s award-winning entry at the San Francisco Art Museum. The same words could have applied to Kossack when it was exhibited at the museum four years later. Perhaps the artist was trying to contain the power of the fearsome Kossacks, the enemy of so many Eastern European peasants, by freezing the image in wood. About the Artist Avis Zeidler (Nemkoff) was a California-based artist who is principally known for her sculpture and drawings. She was born in Madison, Wisconsin, but moved to Northern California by the late 1920s where she majored in art at Berkely and studied with Lucien Labaudt, Ray Boynton...

Nubian Water Carrier in Gilt & Patinated Bronze Attributed Graux-Marly Foundry
Located in New York, NY
Parcel gilt and patinated bronze figural statue of a Nubian Water carrier with a pitcher on her shoulder. The contrast between the deep bronze and bright gilding is incredibly striking. The woman drips in gold jewelry and drapery, wearing arm bangles, a large necklace and outrageous earrings. Beautifully casted, the piece's details are crisp and well defined, with beautiful even patinas and gilding. She stands atop an exquisitely carved, two toned, wooden base made of three sections. A fluted column with a small garland nestled within each flute makes up the main body, while a bellied band carved to mimic tufted cushions or upholstery is sandwiched between the column and a black hexagonal ped. Attributed to the Graux-Marly Foundry. Based at 8 rue du Parc-Royal in Paris in 1860, started by Jules Graux-Marly and continued by his sons into the later 19th Century. The firm exhibited at the 1878 Paris Exhibition and was well-respected for both their figurative sculptures and decorative ornaments. Dimensions: Statue: 53.5" x 13" Base: 25.5" x 17" Overall: 79 in x 17" Circa 1870 Sold with a carved wood pedestal plinth...

Terracotta relief, burnished red body, 43.5 x 38 cm, mounted on support plate, in wooden frame 57 x 49.5 cm, monogrammed "IB" at lower right. - Isolated patina losses, but overall good condition, frame slightly bumped. - The Appearance of Genius- This homage to Daniel-Henry Kahnweiler shows the gallerist and art theorist as Pablo Picasso portrayed him in his lithographic portrait of 1957.
