Stamped ‘Medaille d’Argent Vincenti & Cie 1855’ and with the initials ‘L.R’.
This fine clock or timepiece has a spring-driven eight-day twin train movement by Vicenti et Cie, striking on a gong.
The gilt-bronze case is of square-section with a stepped pediment surmounted by musical trophies above a Vitruvian scroll frieze and rosettes to each corner, below is a circular enamel dial with Arabic numerals and floral swags, set within a finely painted iridescent green enamel panel depicting a courting couple in conversation. The sides are similarly painted with fair maidens in a wooded landscape and the back cast with strap-work and Vitruvian scrolls; a circular hinged door opening to reveal the movement.
Vincenti was a much respected clock maker, a Corsican who set up in 1823 in Montbeliard using machinery of his own design.

Antique French Porcelain, Gilt and Silvered Brass Clock Set

This wonderful clock set, which is comprised of a mantel clock and pair of flanking vases, is designed in a fanciful French ‘Oriental’ style. The set is crafted from brass which has been silvered, parcel gilt and painted. The clock is also mounted with porcelain plaques which are beautifully painted with colourful depictions of birds and flowers.
The mantel clock is composed of a tall rectangular body with a break arch top which is crowned by a covered twin-handled urn. The urn features a parcel gilt pointed finial on its cover and a silvered body painted with pink cherry blossoms. The urn stands on the arched top of the clock, which is decorated with a sculptural gilt scrollwork band and a gilt foliate border. The arch contains a circular porcelain dial which features a central painting of a pair of birds, encircled by black Roman Numerals within white cartouches. This dial is framed by a gilt beaded bezel. The shoulders of the clock body are mounted with parcel gilt and silvered elephant heads holding ring handles.
Porcelain panels decorate the front and sides of the silvered clock body. These panels are beautifully decorated with paintings of colourful birds, butterflies and cherry blossom trees, set within gilt stiff-leaf frames. The clock body is set on a silvered rectangular base which is edged with a parcel gilt foliate band. The front of the base is mounted with a silvered and parcel gilt lion's head mask and flanking painted porcelain plaques. The clock stands on four parcel gilt silvered feet, which are geometric and scrolled in form.

Georges Emile Henri Servant ( 1828-1890) succeeded his father at their foundry at Rue Vieille-du-Temple, Paris in 1855. He specialised in the production of Neo-Egyptian style clocks.
He was noted for the high quality of his bronzes at both the Paris Universal Exhibition 1855 and the London Exhibition in 1862.

An extremely rare mantel clock with a figured mahogany-veneered case by A-L Breguet
Abraham-Louis Breguet (1747-1823), who was of Swiss origin, is undoubtedly the most celebrated clockmaker of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries in France. He is responsible for the invention of the self-winding watch, the tourbillon and the sympathetic watch ( a watch that is placed in a cradle of a special clock. It is then linked by means of a pin fixed behind the clock dial. Built into the motion work which, when released by the clock, automatically sets the hands to the clock's time as well as correcting the watch's regulator necessitated by any degree of inaccuracy registered at the moment of synchronisation) and many other horological improvements and developments. Around the year 1807 Breguet brought in his son, Antoine-Louis (born 1776), as a business partner, and from this point, the firm became known as Breguet et Fils. Break arch case with applied carved decoration resting on a shaped stepped plinth and standing on four brass ball feet.
Brass bezel opening to the silvered dial with Roman numerals, original ‘blued’ steel hands signed Webster, Queen Victoria Street, London.
The hinged back door opening to the eight day movement with platform escapement striking the hours and halves on a coiled gong. The backplate of the clock also signed Webster. C.1880
