An exceptional, fine and impressive antique George V Scottish sterling silver caddy spoon; an addition to our teaware collection.
This exceptional antique George V Scottish sterling silver caddy spoon has a plain shovel shaped bowl.
The handle terminal is embellished with a cast features depicting Celtic knots and interlacing designs, paralleling a mystical interlaced creature.
The handle stem is further ornamented with a raised paralleling border, incorporating scrolling designs to either end.
This impressive antique 1920s silver caddy spoon was crafted by the distinguished and collectable silversmith Alexander Ritchie of Iona, Scotland; the piece includes full Glaswegian hallmarks, in addition to identifying 'AR', 'Iona' and registration number RD NO 643267.
Alexander was in the Merchant Navy and returned home once injured in a ship wreck. He returned home to help the family run hospitality business and married Euphemia Thomson; a prior student of the Glasgow School of Art. The couple expanded their love of art and Alex expanded his skill set from wood carving to metal work. Everything was made to the Ritchies' specifications and to a high standard. In 1937, Alex Ritchie's work was included in a prestigious Scottish Industries Exhibition on London.
Condition
This antique Scottish sterling silver caddy spoon is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The cast decoration is very sharp. Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the stem and reverse of the handle are all very clear.

This is a beautiful plate in the Chinese inspired pattern number 4089, produced by the Copeland - Late Spode factory and made of earthenware pottery called Pearl-ware, in the mid 19th century, circa 1850.
This plate is well potted with a recessed rim.
The pattern is transfer printed under-glaze in cobalt blue, then carefully hand painted in bold coloured enamels over-glaze in Gilt Heightened, Rare Pattern Number '4089' which Depicts Oriental Flowers including Bamboo, Peonies and Prunus Blossom in a garden setting with insects.
Similar plates of this period are shown in Steven Smith's book called Spode and Copeland, published by Schiffer.

A very fine Aesthetic Movement Royal Worcester triangular shaped jug hand painted with flowers and butterflies and made for Bailey Banks & Biddle in Philadelphia dated 1882. The porcelain jug is very reminiscent of the designs of Christopher Dresser with its angles and patterning and is formed in the shape of a triangle on a slightly wider foot with a decorative scroll and loop terminal handle and with a shaped top rim with a raised pouring spout with a low relief embossed stylized floral motif below and with an embossed floral edge border around the upper rim. The jug has a Z pattern border around the foot and is hand painted with floral and butterfly patterns around the body in colored enamels on ivory ground. The handle, upper rim, the embossed design and Z patterning around the foot are all painted in a satin brown color and highlighted with gilding which has also been used to outline the hand painted patterning to the body. The jug has a puce printed maker’s mark to the base along with a date code for 1882 and has puce printed retailers mark for Bailey Banks & Biddle. An exceptional, fine and impressive, antique Victorian English sterling silver trophy cup with rowing interest; an addition to our Victorian silverware collection.
This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver presentation cup has a bell-shaped form to a circular domed foot.
Either side of the body of this silver trophy cup is embellished with an impressive applied oval belted garter bordered cartouche encompassed with a paralleling embossed floral and foliate decorated wreath design; the cartouche to one side remains vacant.
The cartouche to the opposing side incorporates the elucidating presentation title 'Ambrose Challenge Rowing Cup', in addition to a scene of two row boats in competition with a riverbed in the background.
The upper rim of the cup is encompassed with an applied moulded decorated border.
This impressive Victorian trophy cup is fitted with an exceptional pair of embossed sterling silver scrolling handles, accented with leaf decorated thumbpieces.
The cup is supported by a waisted pedestal and circular domed foot accented with further embossed foliate ornamentation.

A very stylish and unusual glazed ceramic handled vase by renowned Italian artist Marcello Fantoni (1915-2011). The rounded bottle shaped vase has a tall funnel neck with a large rounded loop handle attached to one side. The cream coloured body is decorated with run glazes in blue and yellow over a lightly textured purple ground. The vase is signed Fantoni to the base.
Marcello Fantoni was born in Florence in 1915 and studied an Art of Ceramics course at the Institute of Art at Porta Romana from where he graduated as a 'maestro' of art in 1934. In 1936 he established the Fantoni Ceramic studio and produced many unique pieces which quickly found him fame and recognition. His success continued and today his work is represented around the world in all the leading art institutions including among them the Metropolitan Museum of Art of New York, Victoria and Albert Museum of London, Museum of Modern Art of Tokyo and Kyoto.
