A Room We Love from the 1stDibs 50: Gramercy Design

“Organized chaos” is how Kyle O’Donnell, of New York–based Gramercy Design, (lovingly) describes this Noho, New York, loft belonging to a collector. Putting this client’s needs first, O’Donnell has delivered a casual and essentially neutral living space that can evolve with the next big piece that comes through the door, whatever it might be.

Storage is plentiful; surfaces are not too precious. And the strict vocabulary of mid-century master Paul McCobb has been extended from a few beloved vintage pieces (the tiered wood coffee table and the Persian rug, for instance) to the built-ins and hardware details. Embodying the ready-for-anything dynamic of the loft: a coiled lamp in cotton and nylon by contemporary designer Doug Johnston.
