Nodding to the tradition-in-the-tropics vibe of his clients’ Palm Beach house, Matthew Boland, of MMB Studio, designed the dining room around a very special set of Chippendale-style chairs. The pieces, from Century Furniture, have trellis backs and ultra-comfortable seats. And their hand-painted faux burl frames shine in a fairly minimal setting, says Boland, who adds, “Their scale is fabulous — they are very large.”
Diagonal patterns on curtain fabric from Dedar, the area rug and the Bermuda-style tray ceiling help ease the classic seating into a space with an otherwise modern bent. Not too modern, however: Vintage Murano glass lighting and an 18th-century Thai Buddha statue help create a comfortable balance of old and new.
