The home of Rick Reilly, recently highlighted in Introspective, was designed by architect Richard Harrison in 1964. Reilly’s renovation and redecoration of it will be revealed to the public on February 19, when the house is one of the destinations for Palm Springs Modernism Week’s Iconic Home tours.
Palm Springs may be a magnet for mid-century modern lovers year-round, but Modernism Week is undeniably the best time to explore the city’s rich architectural landscape. Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, the 10-day festival starts on February 13. Visitors can tour many residences that are otherwise closed to the public, including interior designer Rick Reilly’s Desert Moderne home, which was recently featured in Introspective.
Twenty years ago, Christo and Jeanne-Claude‘s monumental public art installation The Gates opened in Central Park. Comprising 7,503 orange posts with nylon panels of the same bright hue, it covered park pathways from 59th to 110th Street. Now, Town & Country reports, an augmented-reality experience on the Bloomberg Connects app will allow park visitors to experience a digital simulation of the piece.
Jennifer Pritzker has donated Frank Lloyd Wright’s Emil Bach House to Loyola University, per AD. The 1915 structure is one of the architect’s many Prairie-style residences in Chicago.
