“Everything I have here is an ingredient or a utensil used to make kombucha. Well, maybe books are not that essential and neither are the big wooden spoons, but they look good in the composition. Well, I also did not show any scoby—a bacterial yeast culture which is the main ingredient— although one could argue that scoby was in one of the glass bottles before we used it to make our homebrew. That’s what my wife does. We have full shelves of homemade kombucha in bottles with all different flavors, suited for all different tastes. Great stuff...

"Over a decade ago, before this Fatburger location in Sherman Oaks was renovated, I was admiring the evening neon light bouncing off of these chrome stools. I had even started to paint the entire parking lot full of cars across the street, but decided that the mood of the piece would be enhanced if I changed it to a seaside location, making this piece more of a fiction. Story often draws me into a painting, and I felt the exaggerated aloneness was more connected to the feelings of inspiration I found in this place."

Night Burger by Tony Peters is a breathtaking oil on canvas painting that captures a considered and tranquil atmosphere with striking detail. Marion Kavanagh was a pupil of William Keith in San Francisco who, upon learning of her move to Southern California, urged her to contact Pasadena artist Elmer Wachtel. A romance blossomed and the two were married in 1904. During their marriage, out of respect for her husband, Marion Wachtel painted in watercolor, giving Elmer Wachtel the honor of painting in the more “serious” medium of oil. “My painting, Mother and Child, is a depiction of my daughter and I, inspired by whimsical themes we both enjoy. Studying Pre-Raphaelite paintings, Mother and Child evokes rich Roman Catholic iconography. Poland has this imagery everywhere, as it is home to Our Lady of Czensztochowa. As I am Polish, I draw heavy affection for this imagery. While creating this work I kept this Agatha Christie
quote in mind:
‘A mother’s love for her child is like nothing
else in the world, it knows no law, no pity, it
dares all things and crushes down remorselessly
all that stands in its path.’
In this painting I’ve chosen to portray us outdoors in a dreamlike setting, using vivid colors, lighting and environment. “This tender loving care is a necessary maintenance chore for these Native Iroquois women. It enhances the longevity of these delicate water craft. Their hulls of birch bark are thin and easily punctured. Heated resin is used to patch problem areas. Bark patches can be sewn, using Spruce roots, and resined over larger holes. These roots are also used to lash around gunnel, bow & stern. These canoes are extremely light weight, easily maneuverable, and capable of carrying heavy loads. I have one and it can be lifted with one hand and is a joy to paddle.”

“I often will go on painting trips with other artists to remote locations to do plein air sketches and gather reference for larger studio paintings. This was painted from a winter painting trip to Montana, where about ten of us gathered together at a cabin in February to paint landscapes and portraits in the snow. The morning when I saw this scene, we were all heading out into the fresh snow to go paint landscape—my artist friend was standing just outside the door of the cabin in this pose, contemplating the day ahead and looking like a painting himself! The early morning sky was white, as fresh snow was falling all around, blanketing the landscape and tree behind him.
