Eytan's latest hamsa is a redo of an earlier design. We call this design his Melee Muncher because it's the perfect platform for recycled diamonds -- stones extracted from jewelry that customers have brought in for melt value. These diamonds range in color and clarity and are generally fairly pedestrian -- in the SI range with a couple of VS2's -- but they're perfect for this pendant because, with the black background and the tight pavé, they can't help but pop. We love the idea of putting these stones to good use, and we love the way the mix of clarities and colors looks in such a tight formation.
Two of the diamonds are single cuts and at least two are transitional (high crowns and tiny tables). The rest are full cuts. They range in size from 1mm to 2.5mm; the total carat weight for all 25 diamonds of 0.65 carats.
The pendant is 14 karat rose gold with a satiny finish and a nice big top ring that will accommodate lots of different chain options, but we like our new garnet and rough diamond bead strand.

This hamsa is one of Eytan Brandes' older designs, but he has realized it in many different iterations over the years, always keeping it fresh.
In shimmery, satin-finished 18 karat yellow gold, this latest version is the first time he's tried opening up one side.
The other side is pavé-set with 25 diamonds. In keeping with tradition, he used all different size stones because this design is one of Eytan's favorite ways of using diamonds from Eytan's Big Box o' Recycled Diamonds! These are stones, mostly of average or below average clarity -- pulled from the thousands of pieces of jewelry that have come through the store over the years on their way to be melted and made by Eytan into something better.
The stones used for this pendant range in size from 0.8mm to 2.2mm for a total diamond weight of 0.78 carats. Eytan used diamonds that would be considered "slightly included," avoiding the ones that would be classified as "included." (In other words, he used SI1-2's and avoided the I's, with the exception of the stone at the very top, which is a straight I2.)
Most of the stones are full cut, but since a lot of these diamonds came from older jewelry, there are a few single cuts as well.
Meticulously set, everybody gets their job done, especially set against yellow gold, which can't help but elevate their color.
All stones are earth-mined, natural and untreated.
We love putting these stones to good use, and we love the way a bit of careful sorting can bring stones from 25 different pieces of uninspired jewelry together to act as a unified team in something new, beautiful and wearable. Go team!

150 Carat Custom-Cut Golden Quartz & Diamond Pendant in White Gold

Story time! About ten years ago, one of Eytan Brandes' customers bought this enormous quartz at a gem show and asked Eytan to make her a diamond pendant to show it off. Eytan made the pendant, set the diamonds, added a fixed chain, then, well, he dropped the quartz.
It didn't break, but it suffered an internal (not surface-reaching) fracture that is more or less visible depending on the angle of the pendant. You can see it in the photos for yourself. Eytan told the client, went back to the original gem dealer, and ordered up another enormous custom-cut quartz. Since the measurements of the new stone were different, he made an entirely new pendant for the new stone and the customer went away happy. Phew.
That left Eytan with a big flawed quartz and a big gold pendant. Fast forward to 2022: after years of languishing in the back of the safe, Eytan decided that it would be a shame to deny these two outlandish baubles a chance. He made some changes, though. First, he dipped the pendant in rhodium, turning it white. Then he removed the chain, which oriented the pendant horizontally, and he added a new bale (fashioned from a 1950s white gold wedding band!) so that the pendant now hangs vertically.
The 82 diamonds on the halo are all tiny but good quality (G-H color and VS clarity) natural, untreated earth-mined and full cut diamonds with a total weight of 0.40 carats. The four diamonds on the bale are of lower quality (probably more like J-K color and SI clarity), with an estimated total weight of about 0.04 carats.

Eytan Brandes assembled this graceful, sexy little pendant from three different pieces:
The 18 karat yellow gold "rose" came off of a frankly hideous 1940s brooch. (The sum of its parts has proved greater than the whole; we're still using bits torn off this monster, and the pieces -- little petals and flowers and leaves and stems -- always look great when they're separated from the mother ship, but when combined in one brooch: a garish mess!)
The "stem" was actually a link from a very old (pre-1900), very fabulous but very fussy (and very prongy) diamond bracelet which Eytan resized for a customer, keeping a link as payment. The bottom diamond was badly damaged so rather than trying to match the top diamonds, Eytan replaced it with a nice sapphire.
The little 14 karat white gold tri-tipped top piece was the bale from a 1960s birthstone pendant, which Eytan scored and trimmed to match the stem.
Finally, Eytan added the perfect delivery system: a choker-length Boston link...

This large and sexy pendant was a brooch that's been sitting in the safe since dinosaurs roamed the earth. Eytan Brandes always liked the color of the gold and the contrast with the stones, but he didn't really like it as a piece of jewelry until he conceived of hanging it face down as a pendant.
The leaves are highly detailed with veins and texture, and their outer edges are polished to give them definition, but the inner surfaces manage to be frosty and matte at the same time, giving the gold a pale, slightly rosy appearance. The citrine berries, on their polished stalks really pop against this background.
The leaves are gathered by a ribbon, complete with a "fibrous" Florentine finish.
The back is high polish and almost as beautiful as the front.
The hidden bale is located behind one of the stems and is large enough to accommodate most chain hardware.
We've paired it with a 17" long necklace of polished and faceted 4mm lapis beads. The closure is a 14 karat gold box...

Four different components came together to make this sexy 14 karat yellow gold chain.
The curb chain itself is standard jeweler's inventory that's been kicking around the store for a few years. Eytan Brandes removed the lobster clasp and added the toggle, which is newly cast from an antique silver toggle.
For the end ring, he pried one of the rings off of a boring brooch -- one of those pins where a cluster of rings makes a kind of wreath.
The ring looks great -- it's thick and has squared edges -- but it's hollow and too lightweight to stand up to the solid toggle. (Strangulation alert!)
