11 Carat Diamond Line Omega Necklace in Yellow Gold with Golden South Sea Pearl

About the Item

This dramatic, one-of-a-kind necklace went through three phases in its evolution from conventional to sensational. The starting point was an 18 karat gold line/omega chain with five little four-square stations. This necklace was made in Italy and imported to the US in the mid-1990s by a downtown Los Angeles wholesale jeweler. Well made, nice diamonds, not terribly distinctive. The second phase was the addition of the fixed center pendant, consisting of an open teardrop of graduated diamonds -- a sort of floating halo for a hinged diamond pavé pendant. Now we're getting somewhere! When the necklace came to us, Eytan Brandes decided the pavé dangly thing had to go. The diamonds were nice quality but too small, and the pavé work wasn't very good. So our addition to this piece is a gorgeous, lustrous, scrumptious 13.5mm baroque golden South Sea pearl. Eytan suspended it from a wire that can be detached from the back of the pendant so that you can try other doo-dads as well. THE DIAMONDS: There are a total 108 round, full-cut diamonds, ranging in size from 0.06 carats to 0.56 carats. The small "crown" has another eight stones -- 8 tapered baguettes ranging from 0.05 to 0.10 carats. We laboriously counted up and measured (OCD!) all 116 diamonds and can provide you with our diamond inventory, but the upshot is that our estimated weight comes to 11.05 carats. The necklace came with two appraisals, one estimating 12.25 carats and the other 11.28 carats, so we figure a minimum of 11 carats is a safe bet. All diamonds are natural, earth-mined and untreated. Eytan rates them very nice: G-H color and VS clarity. The total length of the necklace is 18". The flat, high-polish omega portion is 3.1mm wide and 1.4mm thick. The closure is a box clasp with figure 8 safety catch. The total weight of the necklace is 42 grams. The estimated gold weight is 36 grams, of which we estimate 2/3 is 18 karat and the remainder is 14 karat. An appraisal is included with your purchase.
