Imperial Topaz & Pearl Gold Ring Certified Untreated, London, 1843 Size 10.5
Located in Southbury, CT
This vivid pink imperial topaz ring -hand-crafted in England over 180 years ago- is one of the rarest and most unapologetically regal rings you will ever encounter. A size 10.5 ring, it was originally created for a man. But could of course be worn by anyone today. In the era this ring was created, men wore pearls. And no man would feel uncomfortable wearing a flashy pink gemstone because there is absolutely no other gemstone that looks like this. Topaz is a common gemstone and is typically white. It is irradiated to achieve its popular blue and pink colors. But naturally pink topaz is not common. It is in fact exceedingly rare, considerably rarer than diamonds. And this particular natural pink topaz gem is vividly saturated. It flashes purple. Having reviewed images of the pink imperial topaz necklace and earrings King Charles presented his wife, Queen Camilla...

Fire Opal Ring Retro Certified 5.5 Carats Circa 1940s
Located in Southbury, CT
A spectacular and utterly unique 14K yellow gold ring from the Retro era (circa 1940s) featuring six cabochons of natural fire opals from Mexico. These gorgeous and highly-prized gems measure from 9.2mm x 6.7mm to 8.8mm x 6mm. They display orange, orange-yellow sand orange-pink coloring. The dazzling gems weigh approximately 5.5 carats. The face of the ring measures 30mm x 28mm, so it's an impressive and bold ring. The interior is marked for 14K gold but there is no maker's mark. Yet the production quality is extraordinary. The gold metalwork is expertly executed and very whimsical and creative. This bold, flashy, and fun ring is a size 7 and you're jeweler could resize it for you. This ring ships with a certificate from Stone Group Labs stating that these are precious fire opals...

Turquoise & Silver Ring American, Circa 1920s
Located in Southbury, CT
This sleek, graphic turquoise and silver ring was created near the 1920s, and is consistent in design, quality, and materials to rings created by the Zuni nation; however the ring is not signed. And therefore, it cannot be sold as "Native American." Some people prefer to retain the "patina" almost always encountered on rings created by Native Americans. But this has always puzzled me. When Queen Elizabeth toured Africa and wore her favorite diamond crown, that crown was thoroughly cleaned and polished. I don't recall ever seeing Frank Ghery or Elsa Peretti or Paloma Picasso silver jewelry...

Located in Southbury, CT
Traveling between "apple green" and "imperial green" depending on the light, this absolutely magnificent GIA certified natural and untreated Burmese jadeite jade stone is of extraordinary quality. The fine grain and rich, even, emerald-green tone make this stone incredibly rare and impressive. The solid 18K white gold mounting was made by hand just for this ring and features 8 clean, white (G/H/I) .05 carat baguette diamonds on each shoulder. The jade is encircled by an additional 24 round brilliant diamonds, each approximately .02 carats. Making the total diamond weight about 1.25 carats. The jade itself is huge and impressive: a double cabochon (something lapidary artists reserve for the finest jade specimens...

Sapphire 4.04 Carat AGL Certified No-Heat Madagascar Origin, Eye-Clean, Mounted
Located in Southbury, CT
A cushion-shaped, mixed-cut, eye-clean 4.04 unheated royal blue sapphire from Madagascar is the discussion here. The included AGL "Prestige Gemstone Report" concludes that the sapphire has an origin of Madagascar, no "clarity enhancement," and no indications of heating. For many, this Royal blue is the ideal tone for a sapphire. It is the same regal blue seen on the finger of the Princess of Wales. Unheated sapphires with an interior as clean as this stone, and with such a fine, even tone are exceedingly rare and highly valuable. As I write these words in the early days of 2024, A heated sapphire of 4.09 carats with a Sri Lanka origin is currently being offered for sale at a natural sapphire company...

Carved Jade Ring Bi-Color Highly Translucent Certified Untreated
Located in Southbury, CT
This is a highly translucent hand-carved new jadeite jade ring. It's a masterpiece of subtle and lapidary skill. The green face has been carved with a chamfered edge that gives this centuries-old style of ring a decidedly modern aesthetic. The ring displays extraordinary translucency. If it was entirely colorless and this translucency was the ring's primary feature, it would be a stunning and worthy jewel. But it is not colorless. The jade is bi-color: fresh, light green and yellow. The combination of strong lines and soft colors make this a stunningly unique ring. It's like wearing captured light on your finger. Jadeite is a highly durable gem and this is a ring you can actually wear every day. I have another nearly a century old and it shows no sign of wear at all. For the jade purist, this is the ideal: no gold, no diamonds...

Jade Ring GIA Certified Untreated Purple Jadeite, Size 10 ½
Located in Southbury, CT
This extraordinary ring was hand-carved from a single piece or natural and untreated GIA-Certified Burmese jadeite jade. The translucent stone is purple with a hint of light green. Click on the image of the GIA certificate and you will see that it does not describe the color as "lavender" but rather "purple." Making this ring all the more rare. The stone is luminous and absolutely gorgeous in all light; whether direct sunlight or the soft, low light of evening when the ring seems to glow from within. This is a large, substantial ring that was created for a size 10 ¼ - 10 ½ finger. Because the ring is thick, it's not possible to get a perfect reading on my ring mandrel, but if your finger is anywhere from a size 9 ½ (like mine) or a 10 ½, it should fit (though with a 9 ½ finger, the ring will have much more play). If your finger is smaller, your jeweler can create an insert liner from gold, silver or any metal you like and this will allow the ring to fit a much smaller finger -it just depends on how thick the liner is. This would be a project for you and your own local jeweler. In all my years of collecting jade, do you know how many untreated purple jade rings...

Diamond Stanhope Ring in Aluminum
Located in Southbury, CT
A rare aluminum and diamind stanhope ring. A "Stanhope lens" is a tiny single-lens microscope invented in the late 18th century by Eton-educated Charles Stanhope, the 3rd Earl Stanhope. The unique construction of the lens requires that the object to be magnified be near or in direct contact with the lens. Photography, which had been invented several decades prior to the Stanhope lens, was ever-evolving, and something called "microphotographs" became a thing in the mid-1800s. These tiny photographs could not be seen without a microscope. The Victorians, dressed as they were in multiple layers of social decorum, etiquette, and clothing, loved microphotographs because they were cunning, and the subject matter could be naughty —filthy naughty, even— yet remain invisible to anyone without a microscope. The Stanhope lens came along at just the right time and was eagerly adopted; incorporated into everything from crucifixes to sewing scissors. And, of course, set into rings. Stanhope rings...

Jade & Pearl Ring Certified Untreated
Located in Southbury, CT
A large oval cabochon of translucent seafoam green jadeite jade is surrounded by 16 luminous natural pearls in this ever-stylish 14K white gold halo ring from the early 1950s. The jade stone is natural and untreated and displays a high degree of translucency. Which is why this jade ring looks spectacular whether it is in direct sunshine, or just barely illuminated by the waning light of a nearby window. The luminous jade stone changes its appearance throughout the day, as the light changes. The jade cabochon measures 14.5mm x 9.19mm Seafoam green was pointedly on-trend in the 1950s when this ring was hand-fabricated. The pearls surrounding the jade are at least partially drilled —possibly they are drilled all the way through; I can't tell because of how they are set in the mounting. At least one and probably all of the pearls are natural, un-cultured saltwater pearls. They are older than the ring itself. It's not unusual to encounter repurposed jewelry...
