Jade Saddle Ring with Gold & Diamond Frame GIA Certified Untreated
About the Item
Hand-carved from a translucent stone of natural and untreated Burmese jadeite jade, this rather astonishing ring is among the most unique and extraordinary jade rings in my collection.
Jadeite with a humble body color of mottled greenish-brown has been gifted by nature with a wide, thick streak of the finest bright emerald green.
The lapidary artist has carved this impressive ring to maximize the dramatic impact of the exquisite green area by placing it forward as the "saddle" face of the ring. What surprises me -and what I cherish about this ring- is that the vivid emerald-green area was not merely cut away and then set into an ordinary ring mounting with diamonds. Instead, the precious green area was preserved in context. The extraordinary together with the rather ordinary. And that is a strikingly rare and beautiful thing.
An 18k white gold "scaffolding" with milgrain detailing has been cleverly constructed into which the carved jade ring may be easily inserted. This, then, transforms the ring by giving it a more traditional precious metal housing. A row of clean, small white baguette diamonds are set into the white gold bands for just a little sparkle.
Remove the 18k white gold frame and you have a classic Chinese saddle ring -in fashion for thousands of years.
The ring measures 8 3/4 or 9 on my ring mandrel and it obviously cannot be resized. So if this ring fits you, you are in luck in so many ways. This beautiful ring ships with a certificate from the GIA stating that the jade is natural color with no indications of impregnation.
My best guess is that the ring dates from the 1980s. Or, it dates from the Art Deco era and the jade itself was later re-polished.

- Jade Ring GIA Certified Untreated Purple Jadeite, Size 10 ½Located in Southbury, CTThis extraordinary ring was hand-carved from a single piece or natural and untreated GIA-Certified Burmese jadeite jade. The translucent stone is purple with a hint of light green. Click on the image of the GIA certificate and you will see that it does not describe the color as "lavender" but rather "purple." Making this ring all the more rare. The stone is luminous and absolutely gorgeous in all light; whether direct sunlight or the soft, low light of evening when the ring seems to glow from within. This is a large, substantial ring that was created for a size 10 ¼ - 10 ½ finger. Because the ring is thick, it's not possible to get a perfect reading on my ring mandrel, but if your finger is anywhere from a size 9 ½ (like mine) or a 10 ½, it should fit (though with a 9 ½ finger, the ring will have much more play). If your finger is smaller, your jeweler can create an insert liner from gold, silver or any metal you like and this will allow the ring to fit a much smaller finger -it just depends on how thick the liner is. This would be a project for you and your own local jeweler. In all my years of collecting jade, do you know how many untreated purple jade rings...Category
