Coat or Banyan in Gold Lamé and Russian Cotton Print - Uzbekistan Circa 1920
Located in Toulon, FR
Circa 1920 Uzbekistan Elegant evening or indoor coat in weaving with shiny silk, fuschia cotton and lamé of golden threads originally from Uzbekistan in Central Asia. Wide and flared masculine cut with small Mandarin collar and long sleeves which were pleated à la Mameluck. This evening coat, bathrobe or Banyan evokes secularly the models worn by European aristocracy in the 18th century, the festivals of Paul Poiret or costumes of the Ballets Russes, playing exoticism as a foil. Drawing of the background in imitation of 17th century Ottoman velvet and brocade, composed of large medallions imbricated with stylized pomegranates, with divine and sacred virtues, which is the most represented fruit in the history of the Decorative Arts. Playing on contrast, a white cotton Russian lining printed with blood-red diamonds covers the inside of the coat, which gives it great flexibility in movement. Note a dozen tiny spots inside the lining (less than 0.8 cm) and a spot above 0.5 cm which merges into the shine of the gold lamé. No other faults, solid and wearable structure today. Very good condition of color and conservation. Dimensions: Equivalent French Men Size 40...
