English Ironstone Imari Platter
Located in Pasadena, CA
This is an exceptionally large English mid-19th century Victorian Ironstone Platter decorated in a beautifully detailed Japanese Imari pattern. The enameling is sharp with deep coloration and the overlaid gold is in very good original condition. The platter is marked "Stone China" on the reverse. The platter is in very good overall condition with normal patination and very minimal losses to the painted decoration. There is a bit of wear to the underside of the rim which does not detract from the value of the platter. Platers of this size are very uncommon and desirable. This piece could be installed as a work of art or even fitted with a custom table base...

Antique Chinese Porcelain Bencharong Bowl for the Thai Market, 18th century.
Located in Point Richmond, CA
Antique Chinese Porcelain Bowl for the Thai Market, 18th century.
Bencharong enamel decoration with Buddhist imagery on a black background. This classic porcelain bowl form having a raised narrow foot rim and slightly everted mouth rim is richly decorated in bright polychrome enamels much favored by the nobility in eighteenth century Siam. This colorful style became known as “bencharong”, a term that derives from two Sanskrit words – panch (‘five’) and rong (‘colour’) and which relates to the number of colours used to decorate such porcelain. This bowl is decorated with typically Thai motifs. The sides are decorated with four Thepanom (Buddhist celestial beings) each wearing a broad necklace of petals and seated on a lotus within triangular cartouches that have a coral-red ground. Four Norasingh (mythical forest-dwelling semi-deity with a human head, torso, and arms but with the hind-quarters of a lion and the tail and hoofs of a deer) against black back grounds filled with flaming pink kranok motifs. This design is framed by two floral bands top and bottom and another double band on the interior mouth rim. The interior glazed in a soft turquoise green and remnants of a floral pattern roundel on center. Sets of porcelain such as this example were commissioned from the Jingdezhen kilns in China and exported to Thailand.

Located in Studio City, CA
A beautiful, perfectly shaped antique Bizen ware Chawan tea bowl by renowned Japanese master potter/artist Kaneshige Toyo (1896-1967) featuring a unique natural, organic forming ash glaze. Kaneshige is universally considered to be the founder of modern Bizen pottery.
In 1956, Kaneshige was certified as a Living National Treasure (Important Intangible Cultural Heritage) for his work in Bizen Ware pottery/ceramics. Bizen Ware is a type of Japanese pottery traditionally from the Bizen province, presently a part of the Okayama prefecture. It is considered one of the Six Ancient Japanese Kilns (along with Echizen ware, Seto ware, Shigaraki ware, Tamba ware, and Tokoname ware).
The piece is signed/ sealed on the base with one of Kaneshige's traditional incised marks.
A rather engaging and scarce work. Would be a fantastic addition to any Japanese/Asian pottery or Bizen Ware collection or eye-catching stand-alone work in about any setting.

Pair of Chinese Famille Rose Decorated Porcelain Vases w/ Foo Dog Handles 1800s
Located in New York, NY
Exquisite Pair of Century Chinese Famille Rose Decorated Porcelain Vases with Striking Foo Dog Handles, 1800s.
Presenting an awe-inspiring and opulent duo of antique Famille Rose Chinese Porcelain vases, adorned with elaborate motifs and breathtaking craftsmanship. Standing almost waist-high, these vases command attention with their majestic presence and captivating artistry.
The prominent aqua background, gracefully envelops each vase, setting the stage for an enchanting display of visual splendor. Delicate white rectangular panels on the neck of each vase feature whimsical scenes portraying highly detailed pheasants, resplendent flowers, intricate foliage, and gracefully entwined tree limbs. The necks culminate in a tulip-edged gold dipped design, lavishly adorned with turquoise enamel that gracefully flows from the lips of the vases into the very heart of their being.
The body of each vase showcases larger white rectangular panels, showcasing meticulously hand-painted graceful tree limbs, vibrant pheasants, sprightly sparrows, and charming lyre birds. Amidst this lively scene, an array of multi-colored flowers and leaves effortlessly breathe life into the composition, while charming aqua blue funghi add a touch of whimsy to the spectacle. The aqua background of the remaining surfaces of the vases, is skillfully adorned with enamels in relief, showcasing a plethora of resplendent hand-painted multi-toned colorful blossoms and foliate, meticulously hand painted in mild relief and scattered to create an elegantly harmonious and evenly spread-out design.
Gracing the upper belly of each vase, magnificent tiny dragons take center stage in intricate high relief, lavishly painted with 24K gold enamel. Their sinuous forms and exquisite detailing bring a sense of majestic energy to the vases, adding a touch of awe-inspiring grandeur.
However, it is the handles of these vases that truly steal the limelight. Crafted with unparalleled artistry, they feature larger Foo Dogs...
