Huge 23" Chinese Porcelain Blanc de Chine Figure of Xi Wang Mu Goddess mid 20c

About the Item

This huge 23" tall vintage Chinese porcelain blanc de chine statue represents Xi Wang Mu (西王母), the revered goddess of the Western Paradise, a figure of immense significance in Taoist mythology. Known as the Queen Mother of the West, Xi Wang Mu is traditionally associated with the mystical garden where the peaches of immortality grow, believed to ripen once every 3000 years and confer immortality upon those who consume them. Crafted with the utmost care, this impressively sized statue captures the ethereal beauty and serene grace of Xi Wang Mu. The use of blanc de chine, a type of white porcelain originating from Dehua in Fujian Province, lends the statue an exquisite purity and translucence, characteristic of this revered ceramic form. The porcelain's milky white finish highlights the fine details of the goddess's attire and features, embodying the divine and otherworldly nature of her being. In this depiction, Xi Wang Mu is shown holding a phoenix bird in one hand, symbolizing high virtue and grace, as well as the union of yin and yang. In her other hand, she delicately holds a peach blossom, a direct reference to the legendary peaches of immortality that grow in her celestial garden. This imagery not only captures the essence of Xi Wang Mu's mythological role but also conveys a sense of benevolence and eternal youth. The statue's craftsmanship, from the intricate detailing of Xi Wang Mu's flowing robes to the expressive features of the phoenix, reflects the skill and artistic vision of its creator. It is a piece that transcends mere decorative art, embodying deep cultural and spiritual symbolism. This blanc de chine statue of Xi Wang Mu is a treasure of vintage Chinese porcelain, offering both aesthetic beauty and a rich narrative depth. It would be a centerpiece in any collection, appreciated not only for its artistry but also for its cultural significance and the timeless story it tells.
