Early 20th century Japanese showa period six panel byobu screen depicting an artistic reinterpretation of a scene from the tales or Genji Monogatari. The miniature style of the painting on a large screen transforms the illustration. Painted with ink and natural color pigments over a dramatic gold leaf ground. The art is set in a lacquered frame with a blue toned silk brocade border. The images of trees, water, and the robes worn by the characters have bright vivid colors and stand out boldly on the gilt background. Lovely aged patina commensurate age and use. From an estate in San Francisco, CA.

    Wear consistent with age and use. Beautifully crafted wtih a lovely aged patina as seen in photos. Age appropriate wear with minor fading, stains, scuffs, and small losses. Reverse side has paper losses. The painting shows well overall with strong vivid colors.
