George II Mahogany Wine Waiter or Bottle Carrier
Located in Lymington, GB
An English mahogany wine waiter or bottle carrier / stand. Of superb color and patination. Mid-18th century, late George II period, circa 1750-1760. This rare, larger-than-usual Georgian example, retains its original lion mask gilt-brass mounts, and has survived with its original fretted angles. Rare to find in this excellent condition in view of the considerable use to which it would have put been during the last 260 years. These scarce open-topped Chippendale period wine waiters serve as bottle carriers raised on legs, with brass castors. They were designed to allow bottles to be circulated around a dining room for guests to help themselves. They had divisions, separated from their stands, and also had a central arched-shaped carrying handle. When not-in-use these wine waiters, or wine wagons...

Chelsea Porcelain Frill Vase with Birds, Rococo ca 1760
Located in London, GB
This is a charming frill vase made by the Chelsea Porcelain factory in about 1760. The vase is in the Rococo style and it speaks for itself why this style of vase is called a "frill" vase. This vase has undergone restorations (although it still holds water perfectly) and is therefore offered As Found (A/F) at a reduced price. Chelsea was one of the very early adopters of porcelain in the British china industry. Founded in 1744 the Chelsea pottery was for about 40 years the leading maker of fine chinaware, excelling in their sense of style, perfection and constant innovation and inspiring many following generations of china makers. The company was started by French silversmith Nicholas Sprimont and you can see the influence of the French style of silverware...

Louis XIV Combined Retractable Silver Spoon with Two Tine Fork, 1592
Located in Vero Beach, FL
Louis XIV combined retractable silver spoon with two tine fork, 1592. Very rare French Louis XIV combined retractable silver spoon with two tine fork 1592, traveling utensil. We are proud to offer this exceptional and unusual museum piece to the market. This rare traveling utensil set consists of a combined spoon and retractable fork from the 16th century. It was introduced by Catherine de Medici who brought them from Italy to France in 1553, upon her marriage to the future king, Henry II. Up to this time forks had only two tine. In the late 17th century forks became three pronged. A combined silver flatware set was a personal item, carried by wealthy owners when dining out. Once sacrilegious and controversial, fork and spoon are among the most important inventions in the history of Western culture. In 1633 King Charles I of England declared them, “decent to use” and so the fork, slowly but surely, gained acceptance at the table. This beautiful solid silver piece has a figural finial and a small seal similar to the Apostle spoons...

Ancient Rare Kashan Lustre Bowl 12th Century Islamic Pottery Art
Located in Vero Beach, FL
Ancient rare Kashan lustre bowl 12th century Islamic pottery art. This beautifully decorated and well cared for lustre bowl is one of the few examples still in existence. It was made in Kashan in the 12th-early 13th century, Seljuk- Atabeg period. Kashan was an important center for the production of high quality pottery and tiles. Lustre ware was among the most innovative development of Kashan potters, who mixed silver sulfides and copper oxides to create a shiny copper toned metallic sheen on the surface of glazed earthenware bowls, plates and vessels. It was an expensive and unpredictable lustre technique. Kashan lustreware pottery can be found in the collections of the British Museum and the Hermitage Museum. Literature: O. Pancaroglu.
