About the Item

Rare Richard Ginori demitasse or espresso cup and saucer set was made of fine semi-translucent porcelain in Italy. It is decorated with early landscape-based Mantua, or "Italian Scene", pattern that features a different pastoral scene on different pieces; in this set the saucer is decorated with a traditional landscape with a standing young woman, and the cup - with a family travelling through a country landscape. The later version of the pattern features the monochromatic brown-toned landscape, framed with rectangular rims, with the earlier version being discontinued for a considerable time. Both cup and saucer rims are decorated with ornamental gold rims; the understated graphic pattern on the rims adds texture and visual interest to the pieces. The handle of the cup features gold decor on top and the sides. This version of the pattern can be found on pieces that date back to 1930s-1940s, often with old Ginori Doccia Pittoria marks. Both cup and saucer are marked with green "Richard Ginori" mark with the crown, that was in use in second half of 20th century; the use of older version of the cup with rectangular handle instead of rounded one suggests that this set was created in 1950s or early 1960s.
