Brass Pendant Fior Di Loto by Afra and Tobia Scarpa for Flos, 1960s

About the Item

The Fior di Loto pendant, passionately conceived by the visionary minds of Tobia and Afra Scarpa, emerges as a true masterpiece within the realm of lighting design. Born in the creative crucible of 1963, it bears the prestigious imprint of Flos, the quintessential Italian luminary. Described in a Flos catalog, it is available in polished or nickel-plated brass, as well as enameled metal. The version showcased here is made of brass and comprises two distinct components seamlessly connected by chromed brass fittings, creating a protective enclosure for the light bulb. This exquisite lamp primarily diffuses indirect illumination through meticulously perforated patterns adorning both sides of its body. Suspended gracefully, the socket hangs from a white coil wire, concealing within it a delicate metal rope for easy height adjustment. The Fior di Loto pendant holds a significant place in the history of Italian design and is documented in the Repertorio del Design Italiano 1950-2000 by Giuliana Gramigna, on page 105 (1963).
