J. E. Caldwell & Co. Sterling Silver Repousse Mirror from Late 19th Century

About the Item

J. E. Caldwell & Co. sterling silver mirror in repousse pattern, beautifully adorned with floral motifs on the back and on the handle, from the late 19th century. It measures 9 3/8'' in length by 5 5/8'' in width by 5/8'' in depth and bears hallmarks as shown. J.E. Caldwell & Co. was a major jewelry retailer and one-time silversmith in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The firm experienced rapid growth from the start, and repeated enlargements and removals were made necessary from time to time to gain the greater facilities demanded. In 1843, James Caldwell entered in partnership with Bennett, acting under the name Bennett & Caldwell. Caldwell acquired a national reputation through its silver services presented to battleships and cruisers of the US Navy. It exhibited at The Centennial Exposition in 1876, representing the American Jewelry Maker. Please feel free to ask us any questions, and please see our other listings. We hand polish all items before shipping them out, but if there is interest for a professional polishing and/or engraving removal, we can take care of that for an additional charge and with delayed shipping.
