About the Item

Jindrich Halabala Lounge Chair in Original Red Upholstery Czech Republic 1930. This elegant lounge chair, designed by Jindrich Halabala and produced by Thonet in Czechia around 1930, is an exemplary representation of the midcentury design in Central Europe. Featuring dynamic bentwood elements and a simple yet elegant geometry, the chair boasts comfortable seats. Halabala's unique aesthetic combines modernism with passion, streamlined design, and a humanistic touch, making them ideal for inviting and functional domestic spaces. The chair were originally upholstered in fabric, which shows signs of wear and tear. We strongly recommend reupholstering them before use. Additionally, the wood has a patina. Jindrich Halabala, a renowned furniture designer, was born in the Czech Republic in 1903 and learned his craft at his father's workshop. He furthered his education by studying at the Academy of Applied Arts in Prague before joining the Bohumil Hübschmann studio in Prague after graduation. As the Artistic Director for the UP Company, Halabala's mass-produced designs were highly regarded for their exceptional quality, rivaling that of other leading European manufacturers.
