Rare Coronado Armchairs in Tobacco Leather by T.Scarpa for B&B, Italy 1974.

About the Item

Coronado armchair in tobacco-colored leather by Tobia Scarpa for B&B Italia 1974, rare with original label and certificate of authenticity. It is fully original and well-preserved. This iconic piece features a soft, voluminous silhouette that exudes comfort and sophistication. The design is distinguished by its tufted armrests and backrest, which emphasize the chair’s bold and sculptural appearance. While visually striking, this design also prioritizes exceptional comfort, making the Coronado both functional and beautiful. The armchair offered here retains its original tobacco-colored leather upholstery, which is in excellent condition with only minor signs of age and use. The label on this piece identifies it as a product of B&B Italia, further confirming its authenticity and historical significance. 2 armchairs available. The Coronado armchair was a revolutionary achievement in furniture production. It was the first chair ever to utilize cold-molded polyurethane foam, assembled around an iron frame. This innovative process resulted in a product that was not only robust and durable but also incredibly comfortable. This groundbreaking technique transformed modern furniture design by enabling efficient mass production without compromising quality. Originally launched in 1966, the Coronado occupies a significant place in design history. Notably, the company now known as B&B Italia was initially founded as "C&B Italia" in 1966—a collaboration between Cassina and Busnelli (hence the initials "C&B"). It was only in 1973 that the company adopted the name B&B Italia.
