About the Item

For sale is this lovely and rare set of two Gluon Chairs by Marc Newson, produced by Moroso in the ‘90s, and no longer in production today. The Gluon Chair was conceived as a modular chair that can be ‘glued‘ together to form longer sofas or benches. The name refers to the elementary particle that functions as an exchange particle — obviously relating to modularity. The Gluon Chair was mainly produced for commercial uses — like airports or reception areas — and has a more active sit. It featured in a lot of blockbuster movies such as The Truman Show (1998) and Prometheus (2012), emphasizing the futuristic setting. The chairs feature a four legged steel base and a silver tinted polyurethane seat with orange trim. The void in the center of the seat acts as an air cushion to make it comfortable to sit on. An important and rare chair, and a perfect example of Marc Newson’s futuristic and a-typical designs. The listed chairs are in a lovely pre-owned condition, with wear consistent with age and use: no chipping to the frame, upholstery spotless and still fresh. Some wear to the steel base as show on the pictures, overall in really great kit. Price is for the set of two chairs General note: Shipping quotes as supplied by 1stdibs are only indicative.
