Set of Six Rosewood Estrutural Chairs by Joaquim Tenreiro. Mid Century, Brazil

About the Item

To compose light seats, Tenreiro used thin wooden sticks in some of his chairs. One of these pieces, which became well known, was the Structural Chair. Created in 1947 in two versions, one with a cane seat and another upholstered, the Structural Chair had a backrest formed by sticks with the smallest possible diameter. The chair was reissued in 1967 in polished brass with upholstered back and seats, but with the thin sticks still present. The brass version was the last piece of furniture produced by the Tenreiro Decorações store in São Paulo. After completing the delivery of pieces designed to compose the dining table in the Banquet Hall of Itamaraty Palace in Brasília, the commercial activities of his store were closed.
