Set of 8 Rosewood Dining Chairs by Fatima Arquitetura Interiores, Brazil 1960s

About the Item

This set of eight Freijo wood chairs was manufactured by Fatima Arquitetura Interiores (FAI) in the 1960s. These pieces called our attention for many design reasons. First, the combination between seat and back as a single cane volume. Second, the piece’s lightness, a characteristic found in the production of the master Joaquim Tenreiro. But differently than Tenreiro’s works, this chair does not propose a sculptural/structural challenge. Instead, it’s very orthogonal. Fatima Arquitetura Interiores (FAI) was created in 1960 by architects Guilherme Nunes and Sávio Visconti in Rio de Janeiro. The company intended to function as the union between architecture, decoration, and art, having a gallery space that housed artistic manifestations related to architecture. Sávio and Guilherme sought to move the local scene, and for that, it also promoted furniture design contests. FAI’s production featured furniture with straight lines and careful construction, using rosewood, leather, cotton fabrics, and cane as primary materials. These dining chairs in very good original condition. Wood restoration by our Workshop is included as a courtesy.
