About the Item

Fully restored customizable dining chairs in oak with adjustable backrest by Kai Kristiansen for Schous Møbelfabrik. The chairs have Kai Kristiansens typical light and elegant design that make them fit in easily where you want them in your home, a design that was so unique that his colleague the famous designer Hans J. Wegner characterized model 42 as beautiful from all angles when the chair was revealed in 1956. The chairs have been restored and will be refinished by our cabinetmakers according to your wishes in order to insure that they are in excellent condition with only small and minimal signs of age and use and will be reupholstered without additional cost in fabric of your choice from a wide list of "Kvadrat" or "Romo" fabrics or for a small additional cost in leather from "Sorensen Leather" or "Ca-mo Leather" before they are shipped. Shipping quote is for one chair - ask for shipping quote if you wish for more chairs as the shipping cost per chair will be much reduced if you ship more chairs in the same shipment. Kai Kristiansen was one of the last pupils of the famous architect Kaare Klint who founded modern Danish design and laid the foundation for the "Danish Modern" style. During the years 1958-1978 Kristiansen worked in his business in Aarhus owned jointly by himself and furniture maker Illum Wikkelsø (1919-1999). Kristiansens works met their most intense demand during a few decades from 1950, then production of them was discontinued. However, several of them are now being produced again by the Japanese furniture producer Miyazaki Chair Mill in Tokushima. An Australian producer has also included Kristiansen production in their portfolio. Kai Kristiansen might have been the originator of mass produced furniture, had he accepted an offer from Ikea-founder Ingvar Kamprad. He declined to let himself enroll in the Ikea staff. Kristiansen exhibitions include numerous participations in furniture and design shows in Milano, Paris, Cologne and London. Among his most cherished works is this model 42 chair also named the Z chair, the Paper Knife collection, including two sofas, a coffee table and an armchair. His 4110 og Handy chairs are also widely sold. In fact, the Kai Kristiansen name is probably better known by a selected global furniture design public than it is known generally in his home country.

Mid-Century Danish Niels Moller Model 56 Oak Armchair for JL Mollers Mobelfabrik
By Neils O. Möller
Located in Shepperton, Surrey
A very handsome and finely crafted chair designed in the early 50’s by Niels Moller. This design is quite hard to come by, especially so offered in Oak as the majority were produced in Teak. The timber on this chair exhibits a wonderful honey glow and is in excellent condition. Just reupholstered using the finest black leather sympathetic to the original leather used. Also particular attention had been paid to keeping the seat padding nice and slim, as it should be, there is nothing worse than seeing these chairs incorrectly upholstered with overstuffed seats that detract from the clean lines. This chair would make a fantastic desk chair but could also be placed in other rooms around the house as a statement side chair...
