Czech ‘H-410’ Wood Armchair in Ivory Boucle by Jindřich Halabala, 1940s

About the Item

Sold and priced individually. The iconic “H-410” armchair was designed by Jindrich Halabala in the 1940s. Featuring a rich, honey-stained bentwood frame, this chair has been reupholstered in soft, textured ivory boucle fabric. Its curvaceous silhouette is a timeless embodiment of Art Deco design, with exaggerated arms and a gracefully reclined back. Jindřich Halabala (1903–1978) was a prominent Czech designer and architect, best known for his innovative contributions to modern furniture design during the mid-20th century. His work, often associated with the functionalism and Art Deco movements, blended practicality with elegance and craftsmanship. Halabala's designs, such as the H-410 armchair, are characterized by organic, flowing lines, sculptural forms, and the inventive use of materials like bentwood, leather, and fabric. His pieces became emblematic of Czech modernism, particularly in the interwar and post-WWII periods. Halabala worked for the Czechoslovak furniture company UP (Upright Furniture Factory), where he created timeless designs that emphasized both comfort and style. His work continues to be celebrated for its graceful proportions and functional beauty, and many of his pieces are now highly collectible. Excellent vintage condition. The wooden frames have been carefully refinished. These chairs have also been professionally reupholstered by our team of restorationists in soft, ivory boucle fabric. 15"SH at lowest point
