About the Item

Rare and magnificent; this pair of Model 1590 lounge chairs was produced in the 1940s by Fritz Hansen, the famous Danish furniture manufacturer. The Model 1590 lounge chairs carry significant historical weight in the narrative of Danish modern design. Fritz Hansen, established in 1872, was a pioneering force in 20th-century Danish furniture design. By the time these chairs were produced around 1940, the company was setting the stage for the post-war Danish modern movement. In fact, Fritz Hansen would soon collaborate with iconic designers like Arne Jacobsen – yielding masterpieces such as the Ant, Swan, and Egg chairs later in the 1950s. The Model 1590 predates and in many ways foreshadows that golden era, with its blend of functional form and artistic expression. Design Every element of the Model 1590 showcases masterful craftsmanship and thoughtful design. The wooden frame is crafted from solid elm, resting on a sturdy four-legged base with a gracefullycurved armrest on each side – the rounded shapes of the armrests are typical of the Danish style. The backrest features an artistic arrangement of eight slender wooden spindles, a unique assembly that gives the chairs an airy, sculptural quality and makes the design truly incomparable. This open spindle-back not only provides support but also creates visual interest from every angle, making the chairs just as impressive from the back as from the front. Condition Despite their age, these Model 1590 chairs are in excellent vintage condition, preserving the authenticity that discerning collectors value. The blue velvet upholstery is probably not original, however the cushions are and are very heavy in weight. Re-upholstery can be done upon request. Please watch the video for a more accurate representation of the colors and details, as it sometimes offers a clearer view than the photos.

Pair of Eugenio Gerli Model 126 Lounge Chairs Società Compensati Curvi, Italy
By Società Compensati Curvati, Eugenio Gerli
Located in Hellouw, NL
These beautiful bentwood chairs were designed in 1958 by the Italian architect Eugenio Gerli for Società Compensatie Curvi. This company, which was located in Monza at the time, specialized in manufacturing highly stylized chairs made of bentwood with a modular choice offered to the customer. For example, there was a catalog showing that at that time you could choose from different types of bases and bodies. These specific lounge chairs are made up of seven layers of glued and bent teak veneer. A special example of craftsmanship and artistry in which technique and aesthetics effortlessly come together. The body is attached to a beautiful slender black-painted metal base by means of four bolts. The considerable contrast between the base and the seating area seems to make the chair float. The opening at the back of the seat allows for an angelic light...
