Pair of Mies van der Rohe MR30/5 Lounge Chairs for Knoll Associates, 1960’s

About the Item

Pair of MR30/5 lounge chairs by the renowned German-American architect and furniture designer Mies van der Rohe (1886-1969). He is regarded as one of the pioneers of Modernist architecture developing what came to be known as the International Style of architecture. He is noted for his use of simple geometric rectilinear and planar forms and clean lines in the design of useful objects such as furniture for example. The MR30/5 lounge chairs were designed for KNOLL Associates of New York sometime between 1960-1969. They are made from tubular chromed steel and upholstered in an original light brown. The leather seat and backrest are held in place by leather laces. They are marked with a Knoll paper sticker. There is some minor wear to some of the edges of the leather and to the seating area consistent with its age. There is also some minor pitting to the chrome. Overall the chairs are in very good condition considering their age. DIMENSIONS: Width: 22.5 in. (57.1 cm.) Depth: 34.5 in. (87.6 cm.) Height: 30.38 in. (77.2 cm.) Seat height: 16 in. (40.6 cm.)
