About the Item

This early original of Wassily pair of lounge chairs, are with the original white leather, highly sought after by collectors. The leather has no structural issues. The Wassily model, designed in 1925, tubular structure in curved and chrome-plated steel, seat, backrest and armrests furnished with white leather straps, saddle stitching. This edition is in its original state, circa 1962. On the back of each chair is the original label of the Italian Gavina. It was first Thonet who had the license from 1925-1962, then Gavina until 1968. Since 1968 the rights have been held by Knoll. The Wassily chair, also known as the B3 model chair, was designed by Marcel Breuer in 1925-1926, while he was head of the Bauhaus cabinetmaking workshop in Dessau, Germany. Breuer, like many of his colleagues, is an architect and furniture designer. He was an influential modernist. He had a great interest in modular constructions and simple forms. Despite popular belief, the chair was not designed for the painter Wassily Kandinsky, who was, at the same time, a member of the Bauhaus faculty. However, we know that Kandinsky admired the finished chair, and that Breuer made one for Kandinsky's workshop. It was in fact a few decades later that the chair took the name "Wassily": at the time, it was re-edited by the Italian manufacturer Gavina who had heard this anecdote on Kandinsky. First published by Thonet in fabric in resistant and shiny cotton thread, it was Gavina the Italian publisher who replaced the fabric with leather straps. This chair was revolutionary in the use of materials (tubular curved steel and canvas) and manufacturing methods. It is said that Breuer was inspired by the handlebars of his bicycle for the use of steel tubes to build the chair. The chair was mass produced from the 1960s, and over time has become a Classic of modern design. It was first Thonet who had the license from 1925-1962, then Gavina until, 1968. Since 1968 the rights have been held by Knoll. White leather chairs are more sought after because they are more rare in a good vintage condition. Picture N*2 © Knoll

Authentic Pair French Armchair, Louis XVI Period, 1775-1790
Located in Paris, France
These authentic Louis XVI period armchairs, original and authentic, seduced me by their modernity. Very rare with their original cream lacquer, flat and square back "à la Reine", with their strict armrests and highly visible assembly, straight legs turned into quivers in the shape of a column tapered down and fluted. The foot ends in a dice that rests on the ground, while the top is cubic is decorated with a circular molding pattern quite rare contrary to the rosette pattern often used for copies - The queen chairs have perfect proportions in their elegant silhouette. In general, I am only interested in design and contemporary pieces, but in the course of my peregrinations I sometimes come across pieces that do not leave me indifferent. As for the lyres chairs, the baccarat chandelier and the large golden mirror...

Set of Original Jacob Model Chairs Lyre of Louis XVI, Late 18th Century, France
Located in Paris, France
Exceptional series of Louis XVI lyre chairs in lacquered wood, a prized model and symbol of refinement in the 18th century. While these chairs are unstamped, their details are strongly reminiscent of a production by Jacob: finessed sculpture with sophisticated grooves…these proportions are perfect and light, a touch of exquisite taste. These chairs feature ancient lacquer in two tones (white with blue highlights) The fabric of seats have been restored The assembly of these chairs has been checked and remains solid - The original trim on the springs and straps have been preserved and remain in good condition. The laque is in it original statement, we do not like to make up the antic pieces preferring to leave them in their statements. Nevertheless we work with highly qualified restorers and at your request and charge we can care of it. The 7th chair is free and not included on the picture as it has more cracks and fissures. These armchairs are covered with a luxurious silk a blue gray and silver combination that perfectly matches the original lacquer from Maison Tassinari and Chatel...
