'Platner' Lounge Chair in Green Mohair by Warren Platner for Knoll, USA, c. 1973

About the Item

An enduring icon of American modernism, this authentically vintage Platner lounge chair—designed by Warren Platner and produced by Knoll International in 1973—embodies sculptural elegance, refined materials, and timeless design. This single chair has undergone a meticulous restoration by our skilled craftsmen, who specialize in preserving and reviving mid-century masterworks. The original steel rod frame, composed of over 1,000 precision welds, has been carefully cleaned and restored to showcase its signature architectural beauty and structural integrity. Upholstered in a luxurious green Kravet Couture mohair, the fabric was thoughtfully selected for its vintage-inspired hue, tactile richness, and durability. This premium textile brings a subtle depth and softness that complements the chair’s airy, sculptural form. Beneath the mohair, new medium-density foam ensures a supportive and comfortable seating experience that meets modern expectations without compromising authenticity. Warren Platner’s legacy—shaped by his collaborations with architectural greats like Eero Saarinen and I.M. Pei—finds perhaps its most iconic expression in the Platner Collection, first introduced by Knoll in 1966. This restored example honors that legacy, offering a rare opportunity to own an original piece that has been thoughtfully revived for contemporary interiors. A standout for collectors, designers, or anyone with an eye for enduring design—this chair is more than a seat; it’s a sculptural statement with decades of history and a fresh new life. ---Dimensions--- Width: 36 in / 91.44 cm Depth: 26 in / 66.04 cm Height: 30.5 in / 77.47 cm Seat Height: 19 in / 48.26 cm Arm Height: 25 in / 63.5 cm This iconic Platner Chair has recently undergone a comprehensive restoration process and we love the results. The upholstery has been redone in a fabulous, vintage-feeling Green Kravet Couture Mohair and is in showroom condition. The cushions have been replaced with new medium density foam for maximum comfort and longevity. The steel wire frame has received minor repairs such as a number of welds in exact accordance with the original construction. The only wear visible is a small amount of tarnishing and light nicks but showing no bends, missing or broken wires. This ultra-stylish chair is incredibly comfortable, structurally sound and ready for a literal lifetime more us thanks to it's recent restoration process. Please view all photos and video for details on this stunning Platner chair's current condition.
