About the Item

This is a custom Italic Cabinet, designed by Alcoa / Reynolds / GF Studios for Gordon Bunshaft and SOM's Reynolds Metals Headquarters in Richmond, VA. The design is largely seen as a collaboration, as SOM was hugely involved in furniture design at that time through the leadership of Bunshaft. Bunshaft was an important American architect; a leading figure in the modernist movement who was widely recognized for his work in skyscraper design. The collaborators, GF Studios and Alcoa, were able to assist in providing materials and manufacturing. Overall, the idea was to create a furniture collection from Aluminum for the headquarters of Reynolds Metals, a company who’s main focus was…metal. The cabinet’s frame is made from steel, and its design includes a lift-up door that reveals ample storage space inside. We also currently have a coordinating desk that matches this cabinet in our inventory, available for separate purchase. The piece has metal trim in a matte brass electroplated-aluminum, and it has a woodgrain laminate top. The cabinet measures 19.75 inches deep, 40.75 inches wide, and 30.25 inches high. There are some scratches and scuffs on the sides and the legs, and there are some areas of wear around the edges. The front panel shows some age. We’ve intentionally left this cabinet in its original condition, but can certainly have it refurbished further upon request. Overall, this cabinet is in very good original condition with some signs of use. Please see photos.
