8-Drawer Dresser in Walnut, Kipp Stewart, Drexel's Declaration Line, USA, 1960's

About the Item

ntroducing a rare 8-drawer dresser designed by the influential Kipp Stewart for the venerated Drexel Furniture Co. Built from a mix of solid and veneered American black walnut this gorgeous American icon functions well as both a credenza/TV stand and as a dresser. Kipp Stewart, who recently passed in 2022, is an American Icon who's work as a furniture designer, artist and architect has been widely respected and venerated throughout the US and abroad. After working with the renowned industrial designers Charles and Bernice “Ray” Eames, Stewart went on to design furniture of a mid-century modern aesthetic for Drexel Heritage out of North Carolina, Directional Furniture through the Modernage Company in New York, and Summit Furniture of Monterey. The Drexel Furniture Co. began over a hundred years ago in Hickory, North Carolina with a single product and a simple vision. The product was a made-to-order dining chair. In the decades since, their product range has evolved into an assortment of timeless designs, drawn from significant periods and places, and from the talents of some of the world's most respected designers such as the aforementioned Kipp Stewart. Drexel is still producing pieces to this day with much reverence given to their craftsmanship and use of natural materials. Though this credenza does show some minor signs of vintage wear, which can be seen clearly in the detail photos provided, this amazing case piece still has lots of life left in it and is ideal for collectors and designers alike searching for an authentic Atomic-era piece that has the character of a once well loved and utilized piece. Since his passing in 2022, Stewart's piece's have received a wave of interest and notoriety in a revival of American Mid-Century Modern Design fervor. Make this extraordinary credenza yours today before it's gone forever. ---Dimensions--- Width: 60 in / 152.4 cm Depth: 20 in / 50.8 cm Height: 31.5 in / 80.01 cm Save for a minor veneer repair, this stunning walnut dresser from the Drexel Declaration line is in original, vintage condition and has aged to perfection. Aside from the aforementioned veneer repair the mix of solid and veneered black walnut shows only minor nicks and surfaces scratches with no gouges, stains or other damage present whatsoever and the variegated woodgrains are absolutely arresting in natural light. All eight drawers open and close with ease and the original porcelain pulls are intact. This artfully designed and crafted credenza/dresser is ultra-functional, structurally sound and ready for a literal lifetime more of use. Please view all photos for details on this credenza's current condition. We're limited on the amount of media we can post so we recommend requesting additional photos and videos to get a comprehensive view of this iconic case-piece.
