About the Item

Majestic Italian 1950s Secretaire by Paolo Buffa - Execution by Serafino Arrighi, Inlay by G. Anzani An outstanding and highly collectible Italian mid-century secretaire, designed by the celebrated Paolo Buffa in the 1950s, with execution by Serafino Arrighi and masterful marquetry decoration signed by G. Anzani, one of the most respected cabinetmakers of the period. A synthesis of functional design and artistic craftsmanship, this secretaire is a true symbol of Italian elegance, luxury, and artisanal excellence. Crafted from rich, warm-toned wood, the piece functions both as a writing desk and a storage cabinet, ideal for refined living rooms, studies, or interiors where high design and sophistication are valued. The upper section features a drop-down front panel, which opens via a key and transforms into a writing surface. Inside, the compartment reveals a finely arranged system of small drawers and cubbyholes, perfect for storing stationery or small personal items. The lower section consists of two cabinet doors adorned with extraordinary marquetry inlay, signed by G. Anzani, showcasing intricate floral motifs and tree designs rendered in various precious woods. This decoration demonstrates the pinnacle of Italian woodworking and adds artistic depth and value to the piece. Behind the doors, a practical internal shelf provides additional storage. A certificate from the Serrafino Arrighi archives can be obtained upon request The secretaire stands on elegantly tapered legs, finished with polished brass sabots, in line with Buffa's classic design language, blending structural lightness with decorative richness. Every detail-from the construction to the materials to the decorative elements-reflects the timeless quality of Italian furniture design in the 1950s.
