1930s French Seascape in Watercolor by Frank William Boggs 'Frank-Will, Naudin'

About the Item

A small seascape in pencil and watercolor by the French post-impressionist painter Frank William Boggs (1900-1951). He mainly painted under the pseudonyms Frank-Will and later in life he also used Naudin. He initially studied to become an architect but abandoned his studies to become a full-time painter. F. William Boggs mainly worked in watercolor. This original watercolor is named "Le Tréport" (see left bottom corner) and refers to the coastal town in Normandy, France, where the painter spent a longer period of time in 1937. At the time, Le Tréport was a very well known area for artists seeking to paint various nautical scenes. This particular piece has been signed with his pseudonym Naudin (see bottom right corner). In fair vintage condition. The artwork itself has some minor signs of past humidity in the shape of foxing, especially in the upper left section (see photos). The original, gilded frame shows signs of wear consistent with age and handling. It looks like it has been slightly retouched on some places at some point in time (see photos). The back is original and could use some TLC (see photo). This is a collectors piece for amateurs of post-impressionism, especially the Paris school.
