Antique 1915 Original French Framed and Signed Watercolor Painting
About the Item
The style of this lovely watercolor painting on paper fits so well with the date of the signature; 1915 (see lower left corner). There is definitely a romantic strike of neoclassical revival in the choice of the motif but also an early art deco influence in the execution of the painting. The painting features a romantic scene composed by a greek/roman inspired landscape with majestic dark trees, a sky in full sunset splendor and magic reflections in the dark water of a lake. A lovely original artwork by a talented watercolorist named G. Obrecht (see signature in the lower left corner). Apart from watercolor, the artist has used pencil for the drawing of the outlines.
The painting is framed in a shiny, dark, wooden frame, most likely more recent than the painting itself, probably dating from around the 1960/70s. The painting has a clean back and has not been opened since it was framed. It has a hanger on the back.
In good antique condition. The painting has been well protected under glass and has therefore no traces of humidity or other stains. The colors are still vivid and sharp. The glass is intact. The frame shows some very minor signs of wear on the corners and edges consistent with age and use (see photos).

- Condition:Wear consistent with age and use. Despite my efforts, I do not think the images reflect the true brightness of the colors (especially the peach shades of the sky) and the overall crispness of this artwork. It is even better in real life.
