Mid-Century Modern French Original Signed Oil Panting of Wine Still-Life

About the Item

A moody still-life very much in a mid-century spirit. This vintage oil painting on stretched canvas has been sourced in the wine region of Alsace, France. It is very likely that it has been painted in this region as well since the wine bottles and the tall glass depicted have the typical shapes of Alsace wine bottles wine glasses. The painting is signed by the artist in the lower right corner and dated December (XII) 1960. In addition, as can be seen in the lower left corner, the painting has been dedicated to René Fullgraff (In Memoriam). The artist has efficiently experimented with contrasts of dark shadows and lighter, sharp reflections in this artwork. There is also a visible study of vertical and horizontal lines still visible. And last but not least, a lovely work with layers and textures (see photos). The result is a somewhat dramatic and masculine, mid-century still-life. Perfect for a dining room, kitchen or library. Maybe over a MCM bar cart... The painting is sold unframed. In good vintage condition. The painting has not been cleaned, I leave that decision up to the new owner. The painting shows minor signs of wear consistent with age (see photos). Dimension: height 55 cm/ 21 3/4", width 46 cm/ 18", depth 2 cm/ 3/4". Weight: 647 g/ 1.43 lb
