Fine Pair of 19th Century Porcelain Plaques of George and Martha Washington

About the Item

A fine pair of Continental 19th century porcelain plaques each depicting George Washington, the first President of the United States and his wife Martha Washington within an ornate Victorian oval giltwood and gesso decorated frames. The back impressed with a scepter above KPM, circa 1880-1890. These depictions of Martha and George Washington are after The Athenaeum Portrait painted by Gilbert Stuart (1755-1828) in 1796 which is currently at The National Portrait Gallery in Washington D.C. Measures: Frame height: 31 1/2 inches (80 cm). Frame width: 27 1/2 inches (69.9 cm). Plaque height: 12 1/2 inches (31.8 cm). Plaque width: 10 1/4 inches (26.1 cm). Frame depth: 4 1/4 inches (10.8 cm).

This beautiful antique porcelain plaque exhibits the fine quality of craftsmanship and artistry that the prestigious Berlin porcelain manufactory, KPM, is renowned for.
