Tempera and gold background on panel. 28.2 x 24.7 cm. Cracks and reinforcements. 18th century Crete School. Greece Here is the iconographic image of the boy being rescued by St. George, with the wine pitcher still in his hand. This motif is found mostly in Greek iconography and in regions influenced by it, as well as in the Balkans. We can call it the “rescued boy” motif.
