George Wickes founded Garrard in London in 1735 and the brand is headquartered at Albemarle Street in Mayfair, London. Garrard also has a presence in a number of other locations globally. Garrard was the first official and most notably important Crown Jeweler of the United Kingdom having supplied jewels for Queen Victoria herself, and was charged with the upkeep of the British Crown Jewels, from 1843 to 2007, and was responsible for the creation of many tiaras and jewels still worn by the British royal family today. As well as jewelry, Garrard is known for having created some of the world's most illustrious sporting trophies, including the Americas Cup, the ICC Cricket World Cup Trophy and a number of trophies for Royal Ascot in its role as Official Trophies and Silverware Supplier, which originally dates back to the first Gold Cup in 1842. In 1843, Queen Victoria appointed Garrard as the first ever official Crown Jewelers, leading to the production of numerous pieces of silverware and jewelry for the Royal Family, as well as the upkeep of the Crown Jewels. The company has dealt with a number of famous jewels, such as the Cullinan diamonds (including Cullinan I, "The Great Star of Africa"), and created such pieces as the Imperial Crown of India in 1911, the crown of Queen Mary for her coronation, and the Crown of Queen Elizabeth in 1937. In 1852, Garrard were given the responsibility of re-cutting the famous Koh-I-Noor diamond into a brilliant. Asterism Star stones develop their impressive pattern due to a phenomenon called asterism, a word derived from the ancient Greek word for star. When the stone is formed it includes uniform impurities of titanium dioxide contained within the mineral rutile. An asterism (from Ancient Greek ἀστήρ (astḗr) 'star', and -ism) is a star-shaped concentration of light reflected or refracted from a gemstone. It can appear when a suitable stone is cut en cabochon (i.e. shaped and polished, not faceted). Asterism on the surface of a blue star sapphire is also called Epiasterism, such as that seen also in other gems, is the result of a reflection of light on parallel arranged inclusions inside the gemstone. Collateral: This ring is accompanied by a presentation jewelry box. Collateral: This ring is accompanied by an appraisal certificate prepared by a GIA certified gemologist stating all the characteristics of the components and the gemstones in this piece. Condition: The overall condition of this ring is excellent. Beside the little normal wear, there is no damage to the gold. All gemstones are secured in the settings. This piece has been carefully inspected to guarantee the condition and authenticity. INVENTORY REF: R011924MONNM/3.022
