This painting is part of Wes Sumrall's current mixed media series, Aerials, influenced by the overshots of Earth from the International Space Station. The metal leaf used has a tendency to tarnish slightly after a few years. Wes explains that with the crisis of climate change, these paintings portray the ephemeral nature of earth, and paradoxically embody its beauty through the inevitable decay.

About the Artist
Wes Sumrall began painting at a young age and enjoys observing nature. As he explains, his work involves studying the nature of light by subduing the nuanced color variations instilled. He has been greatly influenced by Mark Rothko, Barnett Newman and Claude Monet. When he's not painting, he enjoys backpacking, going to music venues, working out and spending time with friends.

"The unknown lies on the other side of the hills, it draws us upward towards the top, exploring new horizons," says Brit of this panoramic abstracted landscape. "I enjoy combining organic forms with simple lines as I strive to capture the essence of the landscape and my experience of that moment." The highly textured surface and low relief effects are created by a combination of embossed papers and layering of acrylic paint.

"The beauty of the earth and the mystery of the universe converge," says Brit of this abstracted modernist landscape. "The three moons beg the question as to where this beautiful valley is to be found. I don't claim to know the answer, but I believe in its existence." This painting depicts the view from one of Carol Moore's regular morning walks on Bernal Hill in San Francisco. The work is part of her cargo ship series. In these pieces Carol embeds maps and guitar strings to show the music of our one world, and the exchange of ideas and materials that support our lives.

About the Artist
Carole Moore works as a massage therapist and finds a lot of inspiration in her various clients. Art is something she needs to do - she feels irritated when she goes without painting for too long. Oftentimes, she sits on her feet while painting and does not notice they are asleep until she tries to get up. She enjoys spending time with her family, tending her garden and rock climbing. Carole currently lives in California, but was an exchange student in Mexico and Japan and was highly influenced by both cultures.

"The morning air is chilly just before dawn," Candice says of the setting for this dreamlike scene. "The trees are silhouettes and in heaven. Darlene McElroy sees creating art as similar to reading Turkish coffee grounds. A story becomes revealed as one looks at the surface, texture and color. Her works use a variety of materials ranging from acrylic paints to photo transfers and collage. She currently lives in New Mexico and has been greatly influenced by the work of Robert Rauschenberg. In Dreams is part of my newest series of mixed media works. I meticulously hand cut from vintage paper. The work is collage, watercolor and thread on heavy weight paper, with archival adhesive.
