Over the course of a career lasting half a century, Slim Aarons (1916-2006) portrayed high society, aristocracy, authors, artists, business icons, the celebrated and their milieu. In doing so, he captured a golden age of wealth, privilege, beauty and leisure that occurred alongside—but quite separate from—the cultural and political backdrop of the second half of the Twentieth Century.
The Slim Aarons Estate has released the limited Estate edition as a Lambda print, which is a modern c-type prints. They have chosen Lambda prints for their sharpness, clarity, colour saturation and quality, compared to archival inkjet prints. Lambda printing gives true continuous tone.

We are pleased to offer this vibrant photograph, printed by the Slim Aarons estate. It is part of the estate's only official limited run, of 150. Estate stamp embossed on recto, hand numbered in ink on recto, with certificate of authenticity from the estate (not a secondary gallery licensing from the estate).
Increasingly heralded for his influence, Slim Aarons (1916-2006) made a career out of photographing "attractive people doing attractive things in attractive places." Aarons is known for his iconic images of Hollywood glamour and luxurious people, places and lifestyles.
Aarons began his career as a combat photographer in World War II. Though he earned a Purple Heart for his service, he declared that combat had taught him that the only beach worth landing on was decorated with beautiful people enjoying themselves in the sun.
Slim Aarons is noted for his documentation of the Beautiful People over 50 years, encompassing high society, celebrity, aristocracy, and the jet set. He was born and raised in New York City and New Jersey and later New Hampshire. He took up photography as a teenager. At the age of eighteen, he enlisted in the U. S. Army and was later appointed official photographer at the United States Military Academy at West Point. During World War II he served as an army combat photographer for Yank magazine in Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East. After the war he became a freelance photojournalist, first based in Hollywood, then Rome, then New York. His photographs appeared in many magazines, including Life, Holiday, Town & Country, Look, Venture, and Travel & Leisure. His first book A Wonderful Time (1974) is considered a classic.

In this series, Halliday captures the beauty of everyday life with a contemporary still life image of various objects and vegetation arranged on a wooden plank. The imagery calls to mind a Baroque still life, highlighting the beauty and simplicity found in every day objects. Here a sienna colored ceramic pitcher is captured besides an arrangement of yellow lemons, curly green zucchini, black olives, and brown nuts. The pop of white from the napkin in addition to the stark black background accentuates the simplistic color and shapes of the fruits and vegetables.
About the Artist:
David Halliday's photographs are about beauty, pure and simple. His primary subjects are carefully composed still lifes, portraits and landscapes which he shoots in black and white film with only natural light. He is a purist behind the lens, rarely manipulating his negatives in any way, and a master in the darkroom. His work has an ethereal quality that's translated not only through the subject, but also by the warm colors and sepia tones he uses in his printing.

A master of light, David Halliday produces lush and elegant images that are both classical and modern. Celebrated for his ‘purist’ eye, he poetically captures the nude male body in a selection of sepia-toned prints from 1996. Rarely revealing the model's face, Halliday prefers to focus on the natural drape of limbs, soft folds of flawless skin, and curvature of the spine. Overall, a stunningly intimate portrayal of the male form done with elegance and charm.

ABOUT THIS PIECE: "I wanted to photograph the pools to show the beauty of the architecture, while minimizing the modern elements. I love the geometry of the tiles, the lines on the bottom of the pool and the typography of the signs. Since my first Poolside exhibition in 2018, I have travelled to London, Paris, Manchester and Glasgow to add to my collection. Focusing on composition, carefully using blocks of colour to show interesting shape and proportion. Jackie in Pink with JFK in Yellow Room, NB114C -- Jackie was first shot by Mark Shaw for a cover story in LIFE published August 24th, 1959. Titled “Jackie Kennedy—a Front Runner’s Appealing Wife” this photo essay started the relationship that resulted in some of the most famous and enduring photos of the Kennedy family during JFK’s presidency. Image size is 32" X 32" (for 36" X 36" paper size). All Mark Shaw prints are made to order in limited editions on Hahnemuhle photo rag paper. Each print is Estate stamped on the back and signed and numbered by David Shaw, and accompanied by a letter of authenticity. These are vintage large-format architectural chromogenic print photographs hand signed and dated and hand numbered from the edition of 20 in the lower margin.
The collection depicts attractive examples of Mackenzie's wide-lens studies of architecture, such as barn structures , farm buildings, schoolhouse buildings and abandoned houses, set into richly colored landscapes.
Maxwell MacKenzie is an award-winning professional and fine-art photographer based in Washington, DC and Minnesota. Over the past thirty-five years, his photographic assignments have taken him to 20 states and a dozen foreign countries, including Austria, the Bahamas, Bermuda, Brazil, Brussels, England, France, Greece, Morocco, Norway, Sweden, and Wales.
Three books of Mackenzie's fine-art photographs have been published: Abandonings, (1995), color panoramic photographs of his native Otter Tail County, MN, which was awarded the Silver Medal Award for Excellence from Photo District News; American Ruins, Ghosts on the Landscape, (2001) black & white panoramics made in Montana, Idaho, Minnesota, Wisconsin and the Dakotas; and Markings, (2007), color abstract aerials made from his self-piloted, powered-parachute, a 300 pound, ultra-light aircraft.
MacKenzie’s work is included in the permanent collection of The Phillips Collection as well as hundreds of private and corporate collections, including Exxon, Citibank, Deloitte & Touche, Dow Jones, Fannie Mae, The New York Hospital, Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, the Union Bank of Switzerland, Phillip Morris, and the Washington Post. His fine-art photographs of the American West are also included in numerous American Embassy collections including Bogota, Lima, Lagos, and Moscow.
His work has been exhibited in dozens of museums and galleries all over the country, including solo shows at The Contemporary Art Center of Virginia, Virginia Beach; The American Institute of Architects, DC; The Nordic Heritage Museum, in Seattle, WA; The Piedmont Arts Association, Martinsville, VA; the Julie Saul Gallery in NYC, the DNJ Gallery in LA; The Gallatin River Gallery...
