Luke Smalley was an American artist known for his photographic work, which pairs a coolly minimalist aesthetic with a retro nostalgia. Images from his early in his career were inspired by fitness manuals and yearbooks c. 1910. This is not surprising since Smalley graduated with a degree in sports medicine from Pepperdine University and worked for a number of years as a model and personal trainer. Smalley shot the bulk of his photographs in his home state of Pennsylvania, using real high school athletes as models.
“Exercise at Home” is Luke Smalley’s second major body of work. Shot in and around the tiny Pennsylvania town the artist called home, Smalley revisits themes of adolescent growing pains acted out under the guise of earnest athleticism. About the Series:
Aldara Ortega’s series Agua Viva was an entirely experimental journey brought together by the serendipity of life, motion, and emotion. Ortega found the model featured in these photos at an art fair where she was spellbound by her work with silks. The two met in Miami and brought to life a series of three photographs entitled, Liquid Passion, El Beso, and Poderosa Nereida. Within these masterpieces Ortega discovered her passion for not capturing poses, but motion and how looking closely at the in-between moments of life can bring to light undiscovered emotions.
About the photo:
Aldara Ortega spontaneously captured this image of a friend on a trip to the British Virgin Islands. One Love was created through the guidance of Ortega combined with the model's complex past with water. We tend to try and fight the tempests of life, but we must learn how to float and let things be. “During the research process for a prior series of photographs, I discovered two related facts about my family tree: a) Mary Bliss Parsons, my 8th great-grandmother, was accused of witchcraft in 1674 in Northampton, Massachusetts, and b) less than two decades later in 1692, my 10th great-grandfather, Samuel Sewell, presided as a judge in the Salem Witch Trials. One body of work came and went, but this ancestral coincidence stayed with me. What is a witch? Who does that word belong to—now?
“Major Arcana: Witches in America is a collection of portraits of women from across the United States who identify as witches. As early as 15th-century Europe, people condemned as witches faced a cruel fate: torture, and in many cases, death. Yet despite its history, recent decades have seen a reclaiming of the word ‘witch.’ In the mid-20th century, emerging pagan communities in the United States and Europe began embracing the term, and since then, ‘witch’ has been adopted by a diverse group of people.
“Major Arcana explores the various ways the notion of witch-ness belongs to those who claim it, representing the witch as a self-sought identity that both empowers and politicizes its bearer. Each woman photographed for Major Arcana (including genderfluid and trans individuals) pursues a form of witchcraft, whether aligned with a religion (like Wicca or Voudou) or a self-defined practice. No two individuals inhabit the term ‘witch’ in quite the same way, but many consider themselves pagan, and engage in a diversity of traditions, including: mysticism, engagement with the occult, politically-oriented activism, polytheism, ritualized ‘spell-craft,’ and plant-based healing. This idyllic 1967 scene embodies Slim Aarons signature style, mixing casual glamour and vintage cool; the unique midcentury charm of this iconic landscape is completed with a pink parasol.

Over the course of a career lasting half a century, Slim Aarons (1916-2006) portrayed high society, aristocracy, authors, artists, business icons, the celebrated and their milieu. In doing so, he captured a golden age of wealth, privilege, beauty and leisure that occurred alongside—but quite separate from—the cultural and political backdrop of the second half of the Twentieth Century.
The Slim Aarons Estate has released the limited Estate edition as a Lambda print, which is a modern c-type prints. They have chosen Lambda prints for their sharpness, clarity, colour saturation and quality, compared to archival inkjet prints. Lambda printing gives true continuous tone.

Bare-throated Tiger Heron by Cheryl Medow is an archival pigment print, available in an edition of 10. Cheryl Medow's background in the arts is diverse, but interconnected.
Medow studied ceramics at the famed Chouinard Institute and received a BA in Art from UCLA, concentrating on life drawing with charcoal and pastels. Continuing her art education, she studied printmaking at Hand Graphics in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
With a wealth of materials and techniques, Medow layers her photographs and weaves them together to create visual narratives.
There have been numerous articles written about her work. Avian Alchemy by Becca Cudmore was published by Audubon News/Culture on June 5, 2015, Proof. National Geographic - An Altered Reality by Becky Harlan along with National Geographics Sunday Stills, Sunday, July 12, 2015 and an article in Inspire Adobe Photoshop For The Birds by Alyssa Coppelman in August.
In 2016, Medow was included in the SLIDESHOW Night at the Annenberg Space for Photography in Century City, California. She received the Juror's Award at PhotoPlace Gallery in Middlebury Vermont for Great Blue Heron With Chicks Revisited and her print will be exhibited from March 23 through April 22 and White Ibis With Fish will be part of the Online Gallery Annex at PhotoPlace.
Medow was a finalist in the 89th Annual International Competition at The Print Center in Philadelphia given the Olcott Family Award. She is also a finalist at the LensCulture Earth Awards 2015.
In 2015, Medow's images were exhibited at The G2 Gallery in Venice, CA and at Flock: Birds On The Brink / Ganna Walksa Lotusland, curated by Nancy Gifford...
