Featuring a Coat of Arms From our Decanter collection, we are pleased to offer this pair of Scottish Glass Magnum Sized Decanters. The decanters of square form with canted corners featuring a quilted pattern to each face except the front which is engraved with a coat of arms with the words Aye Courage and writing reading Richard Comyns of Ludston. This is a very good English "RUMMER" drinking glass, which were originally drinking glasses used in English taverns in the late 18th and early 19th century. The glass is handblown and made from lead glass, having a soft greyish colour. It has an ovoid bowl, well engraved with a band of swags and tails on a short wrythen stem, sitting on a conical foot, having a snapped off pontil below. The bowl is also vertically cut with narrow panels which rise vertically from the stem and stop at the shoulder. Overall a very good example of a Georgian drinking glass...

Made from silverplate, it was black with tarnish when it arrived with us, but once polished, restoring it to it's former glory, it was clear to see this has been stored away for the last 50 years remaining in superb undamaged condition. Ice would be stored in the base and chilled shots of Vodka or similar would sit in the cut-outs to the lid. Made in Italy by Argenteria Sabattini signed on the underside. Excellent condition spanning 9 3/4" across the top x 4 1/4" tall to top of glasses; each glass spanning 2 1/4" in diameter across the rim x 4" tall. A stunning antique English silver plated cocktail or drinks tray made by the top-notch London silversmith "Goldsmiths' and Silversmiths' Company at 112 Regent Street, London; signed on the understand. This stylish tray stands on four attractive feet and is decorated with a beautiful engraved design. Just back from our silversmith's workshop where it has been professionally cleaned and polished, restoring it to it's former glory. Dating to c.1920, it remains in superb condition measuring 14" x 9 1/2" x 1/2". In 1880 William Gibson and John Lawrence Langman acquired premises at 112, Regent Street, London and founded The Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company. The firm produced a wide range of items from solid silver tableware and cutlery, jewellery and watches to electroplaters, trophies and surgical instruments. In 1898 the expanded and well-known firm became a limited company and added "Ltd" to its name. The abundant advertising activity of The Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co. Ltd left numerous illustrations of their products. The company also became a distinguished dealer in diamonds and precious stones and a popular retailer of items by other silversmiths such as Harrison Brothers & Howson, William Comyns, Martin Hall & Co Ltd, W&G Sissons, among others. The company's artworks received acclaim at a number of international exhibitions from the 1880s through to the early 1900s.
