Fratelli Podestà, 8 Dining Chairs ''Campanino 900'' Model, Chiavari, 1950s
By Fratelli Podestà
Located in Chiavari, Liguria
A beautiful and rare set of eight dining chairs ''Campanino 900'' model, manufactured by Fratelli Podestà in the late 1950s. This Chiavarina model stands out for its rational and linear design, elaborated trough a process intended to simplify forms reducing the use of materials. The result is a modern and agile chair which evolves the concept of the classic ''chiavarina'' chair nevertheless maintaining its original construction process. Made of beech painted in a cherrywood essence, this model has a frame which weight just 1,700 kg (for a total of 2,1 kg with its drawn guinea cane seat). Chiavari chairs (Chiavarine) have a 200 years long history and since the beginning of their production they have evolved in several models being always recognisable for a distinctive frame structure which allow them to be one of the lightest chair in the world without compromising their sturdiness and stability. Between the 1930 and 1960s they have been one of the first choice of some of the most renowned Italian architects and interior designers when they had to select a dining chair able to fit their refined taste. Names of the likes as Luigi Caccia Dominioni, Ignazio Gardella, Piero Bottoni, Gio Ponti, Azucena, Gianfranco Frattini have often used Chiavari chairs...

Mobichalet Brutalist set of 4 Solid Wood Chairs 1960
By Mobichalet
Located in Santa Gertrudis, Baleares
Mobichalet, founded by a teacher turned cabinetmaker named Joseph Deffense in Beauraing, Belgium, in 1950, had been active a decade, aiming at furnishing second homes with rustic furnitures, which left a sought after legacy of strikingly powerful and peculiar handcrafted brutalist pieces. The chairs forming this set are typical of the designer : the seat itself is a solid slab of pine wood, the headrest is thick, a simple rectangular cuboid, and, as expected in a brutalist design, the construction is very simple yet efficient and sturdy with no sharp angles. This extremely nice set features an homogeneous seat height and very good backrest angle through all the chairs, ensuring an unexpected and consistent comfort. Under the seat, as illustrated in the pictures, the brand logo is directly carved - or drilled - in the wood with large stencil...

20TH Century, Twelve Italian Wrought Iron Garden Chairs
By John Salterini, Mario Papperzini
Located in IT
20TH Century, Twelve Italian Wrought Iron Garden Chairs Measurements: cm H 97,5 x W 47,5 x D 58. Seat: cm H 50 x D 45 x W 45 This series of twelve outdoor chairs, rare to find in this issue, was made in Italy around the middle of the 20th century, in hand-forged wrought iron. The elegant reinterpretation of the classic garden furniture models is inspired by the design of Mario Papperzini for John Salterini who found great demand in America and Europe, especially in France and Italy. The iron elements, square section, draw a graceful and soft line and end at the top with brass knobs. Back and seat are composed of iron elements that are intertwined in a lattice emphasizing the austerity and simplicity of the whole. Very decorative is the system of support of the chairs consisting of curved iron legs and joined together by a crossbar on which rest the semicircle elements of the upper structure. Papperzini’s highly appreciated design is here interpreted with taste and elegance, proposing a line of chairs always suitable for any outdoor environment, such as a terrace, garden and patio, but also indoors. John Salterini, an Italian immigrant to New York, formed his own company in 1934 after the dissolution of Salterini & Gallo, of which he was a partner, which produced wrought iron articles. The post-war boom led to the expansion of homes in the USA, whose owners wanted to own large patios that had to be furnished with elegant outdoor furniture. Salterini managed to offer them some of the most refined outdoor furniture of the time. Throughout his career, Salterini designed and produced a wide range of furniture, from tables and chairs to chaise longues, poufs and benches...
