Antique Pair Of Aperitif Glasses, 1880s, France, 16 cm
Located in Greven, DE
A beautiful set of two antique wine glasses with decorative golden design. In 19th century France, the art of glassmaking experienced a renaissance inspired by the rich history and heritage of ancient techniques. Antique glasses from this era are not only masterpieces of craftsmanship, but also important cultural artefacts that reflect the aesthetics and lifestyle of the time. Glassmaking in France had a long tradition dating back to Roman times. During the 19th century, French glass art experienced a revival, fuelled by technological advances and a growing demand for ornate objects for the home. A notable feature of antique glass from the 19th century is its variety of styles and techniques. French glassmakers mastered a wide range of techniques, including blowing, moulding, cutting, engraving and painting glass. These skills were utilised to produce a variety of glassware, from opulent crystal vases to delicate drinking glasses. Glasses also played an important role in the social and cultural circles of 19th century France. They were often used at festive occasions such as banquets, receptions and balls and were seen as symbols of status and taste. The art of glassmaking became a prestigious craft practised by talented artists and craftsmen. Today, antique 19th century glassware...
