Linda Cunningham, 'Randall's Island Connector', Pastel, Found Objects, Canvas
By Linda Cunningham
Located in Darien, CT
canvas, collage, pastel, acrylic, photo transfers, 2016 Bifurcated sheets of canvas with torn edges suggest the beautiful open vistas now inaccessible to the residents of the Mott Haven and Port Morris areas of the South Bronx, abandoned and dominated by de-teriorating remains, rotting remnants of piers, New York State-owned power stations and City Waste transfer stations. The unusual materials and torn canvas edges convey with tactile sensibility the contradiction documented with photo-transferred images, layered with acrylic and pastel. Materials and image fuse revealing a broken South Bronx history, an urban renewal tragedy, an area once the retreat of choice for fresh air, heath and greenery. The shards of information and vistas evoke the former Port Morris harbor named after Governor Morris a signatory of the constitution. There barges once docked and youth once swam off a pier in the East River. Cunningham’s work centers upon time, transience and contradictions shown through images of the shifting urban present. Compelling environmental concerns juxtaposed against industry, ur-ban blight and the loss of the natural environment as well as her concern for her Bronx home area faced with gentrification drive her work. Linda Cunningham is a Bronx based artist with a long New York and international exhibition career. ODETTA, Bushwick, Brooklyn featured her work in a November two person exhibition and in the Harlem FLUX Art Fair, in 2015 and 2016. Her 2013 installation in No Longer Empty’s “This Side of Paradise,”at the Andrew Freedman House was installed at the Bronx Museum, 2014 in an exhibition sponsored by the Bronx Arts Alliance. The Bronx Museum displayed her sculptural installation ”Urban Regeneration” on its terrace, 2009/10. Exhibitions in Germany began with a Fulbright Senior Research Fellowship in Berlin and her monumental public sculptural installations & alternative memorials are permanently sited in Cologne, Kassel, Bad Hersfeld and Cornberg, Germany, Grounds for Sculpture, Hamilton, New Jersey and City of Sculpture, Hamilton, Ohio. Alternative memorials were sited at the CUNY Graduate Center across from Bryant Park, 1989-1995, in Tribeca and at UN Plaza, New York 1997-1998. Recent temporary public sculpture installations were at Westchester Sq., Bronx. NY, 2014 and Marcus Garvey...

Labyrinth, striking geometric abstract painting, mid-century modern palette
By Kazaan Viveiros
Located in Dallas, TX
"Labyrinth" is a striking modern geometric abstract painting, with a soft mid-century modern contemporary palette. It is painted directly onto panel, with a custom built wooden substrate. The sides show beautifully smoothed wood. Kazaan Viveiros has a background in architecture studies as well as fine art, and this shows in her clean and contemporary works. Artist Kazaan Viveiros earned a BA with distinction from the University of Virginia in Studio Art and Religious Studies, and an MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute. She has since exhibited work in solo and group exhibitions in the U.S. and Europe, including solo shows in New York, San Francisco, Berkeley, Scottsdale, AZ, Richmond, VA, and Savannah, GA. In 2003, curator Raffaella Guidobono gave Viveiros a show at TAD Concept Store in Rome. Viveiros’s paintings have been collected by a wide array of corporations, including eBay and Capital One Bank, as well as by individuals such as WalMart’s Rob Walton and novelist Danielle Steel. Her large diptych, The Whale, was purchased by Banner Children’s Hospital and currently hangs in their radiology ward. Summit Medical Group MD Anderson Cancer Center in New Jersey has many of her works in their collection. In addition, five of Viveiros’s paintings were purchased by the Art in Embassies Program and are permanently installed in the U.S. Embassy in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. She was a 2011 Bethesda Painting...

Water Tower Sculpture: Raccoon Head
By Ethan Minsker
Located in New York, NY
The images on the water towers are from the artist sketchbook. It was also a part of a wheatpaste street art initiative from 2020. During the COVID lockdown he wanted to inject a little bit of nature back in downtown New York. Referencing not only wildlife in general but also specifically from the neighborhood. In this series you might find dogs or cats from artists he personally knows but you might find a raccoon that somehow invaded the city. Ethan Minsker's descriptors include writer, filmmaker, artist, publisher, and zine creator. His work chronicles the lifestyles and cultures of overlooked and underappreciated artists. He was a founding member of the Antagonist Art Movement, a New York City-based group of artists, writers, and musicians who promoted work by up-and-coming talent between 2000 and 2011. Ethan was the recipient of the Acker Award for Visual Arts in 2017. He was also the creator and editor-in-chief of Psycho Moto Zine, which has been in publication from 1988–present. He received his B.F.A. in Film with honors from the School of the Visual Arts and his masters in Media from the New School. Ethan has written three novels, produced nine feature films, and continues his relationship with under-served artists as a board member and president of Citizens for the Arts, a nonprofit group whose mission is to promote art for kids...

By Suzanne Benton
Located in Darien, CT
Pioneer Activists is an ongoing series of artworks by Suzanne Benton. Consisting largely of monoprints with Chine collé where the artist references suffragists, feminists, writers and educators from the 19th century and beyond. These works embody the artist’s stellar theme of bringing past to present. Susan B. Anthony the Elder, monoprint with Chine collé, 18 ½ x 13 ¼ inches, 2020 From Wikipedia Susan B. Anthony (born Susan Anthony; February 15, 1820 – March 13, 1906) was an American social reformer and women's rights activist who played a pivotal role in the women's suffrage movement. Born into a Quaker family committed to social equality, she collected anti-slavery petitions at the age of 17. In 1856, she became the New York state agent for the American Anti-Slavery Society. In 1851, she met Elizabeth Cady Stanton, who became her lifelong friend and co-worker in social reform activities, primarily in the field of women's rights. In 1852, they founded the New York Women's State Temperance Society after Anthony was prevented from speaking at a temperance conference because she was female. In 1863, they founded the Women's Loyal National League, which conducted the largest petition drive in United States history...

Family at the Beach WPA Modernism American Scene Social Realism Mid 20th Century
By William Gropper
Located in New York, NY
Family at the Beach WPA Modernism American Scene Social Realism Mid 20th Century William Gropper (1898 - 1977) "Family at the Beach" 27 1/2 x 19 1/2 inches Mixed media on paper, c. 1940 Signed lower left Provenance: Estate of the artist. The drawing will ship from the home of Mr. Gropper's grandson. Bio Throughout his life, William Gropper used his artistic talents to protest social injustice. Born in New York City, he grew up there in poverty and left high school to work as a dishwasher and delivery boy. He eventually began a career in art and was able to study with Robert Henri and George Bellows from 1912 to 1915. He adopted their realistic painting style, and his own work expressed sympathy for common laborers and outrage at society's ills. In 1919 Gropper established a reputation as a political cartoonist working for the New York Tribune. His blunt, forceful style attracted the attention of other publications, and he provided illustrations and cartoons for a variety of magazines, from the left-wing New Masses to mainstream Vanity Fair. Like many social realist artists of the 1930s, Gropper supported liberal political causes, depicting subjects such as the plight of migrant laborers and striking factory workers. In his first gallery exhibition in 1936 at ACA Galleries, Gropper's work was so well received by critics, collectors, and artists that the following year he had two one-man exhibitions at ACA Galleries. In 1937, Gropper traveled west on a Guggenheim Fellowship and visited the Dust Bowl and the Hoover and Grand Coulee Dams, sketching studies for a series of paintings and a mural he painted for the Department of the Interior. That same year he had paintings purchased by both the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art. Gropper exhibited at the 1939 New York World's Fair, Whitney Museum of American Art (1924-55), Art Institute of Chicago (1935-49), Carnegie International (1937-50), Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (1939-48), and National Academy of Design (1945-48). He was a founder of the Artists Equity Association and member of the National Institute of Arts and Letters. From 1940 to 1945 William Gropper was preoccupied with anti-Nazi cartoons...
