Elmgreen & Dragset 'Phaidon Contemporary Artists Series'
Located in New York, NY
Elmgreen & Dragset's constructed environments have been celebrated all over the world for their mischievous, cerebral, and accessible nature. This is the first comprehensive presentation of the duo's work, from their early performative pieces in the late 1990s to their most recent public projects Drawing from disciplines as divergent as institutional critique, social politics, performance, design, and architecture, Elmgreen & Dragset's work reconfigures the familiar with characteristic and subversive wit. Their sculptures and installations, also known as 'Powerless Structures', have redefined what it means to experience art - the cover features their work Van Gogh's Ear, a sculpture in the form of a swimming pool, which is located on Fifth Avenue in New York at the entrance to the Rockefeller Center. This book includes all of their most significant projects, from the transformation of New York's Bohen Foundation into a subway station in 2004, to the siting of a fake Prada boutique in the Texan desert...

The Glory of Byzantium and Early Christendom
Located in New York, NY
Byzantine art established the images of the Christian religion that are still current today: the appearance, dress and attributes of Biblical figures all owe their invention to these early artists. The Byzantine Empire spanned the fourth to the fifteenth century, bridging the Middle Ages from the late Roman Empire to the early Renaissance, and of all the world's empires, it is most clearly defined by its art. Presenting 300 artworks from the years 240 to 1453, The Glory of Byzantium and Early Christendom encapsulates the development of art in eastern Europe and eastern Mediterranean from the very early days of Christianity to the fall of Constantinople. Even when a more secular art developed during the early Renaissance, Byzantine art lived on as the dominant style for religious art, particularly in the Orthodox East. Nevertheless, a perception of Byzantine art as purely religious is misleading: while it included the production of glorious icons, it also encompassed metalwork, architecture, sculpture, wall painting and mosaics, but secular and Christian. From architecture to jewellery, from coins to paintings, from mosaics to book illuminations, the book explores Byzantine art in all its forms. Unique not only for its extensive variety of art forms, the book also has a vast geographic Scope, including art from Britain to Syria, from Spain to Turkey, from Egypt to Georgia. An introductory essay by Antony Eastmond summarizes the essence of Byzantine and early Christian art...

Reproducing Scholten and Baijings
Located in New York, NY
Stefan Scholten and Carole Baijings established their Amsterdam-based studio Scholten & Baijings in 2000, and are now widely regarded as one of the most exciting, innovative and dynamic design duos in Europe. Renowned for their sensitive and subtle yet functional products, their striking and often unexpected use of colour and their exquisitely crafted objects, they have applied their distinctive style to everything from ceramics and silverware to textiles and even a concept car.

This, their first ever book, documents their design process – from the initial intricate drawings and sketches, through a multitude of models, prototypes, colour swatches and samples, to the finished product. Featuring a wealth of previously unpublished images from the designers’ personal archives, it takes the reader behind the scenes of this contemporary product design studio and allows intimate access to their working methods.

A beautiful and comprehensive monograph, the book focuses on their relationships with different manufacturers and includes the stories behind collaborations with Maharam, MINI, Georg Jensen, 1616?/ Arita Japan, Karimoku New Standard and Thomas Eyck, as well as including a complete list of works featuring all the projects they have designed to date. Opening with a foreword by Michael Maharam, with supporting text from design critic Louise Schouwenberg, the book’s stunning design by Joost Grootens includes a unique die-cut jacket, individually-crafted tip-ins and fluorescent book block...
