Letters from Madame - Touch - from the series mme.xposed
By Carmen de Vos
Located in Morongo Valley, CA
Letters from Madame - Touch, from the series mme.xposed, 2006, Archival C print based on the Polaroid, beautiful on Fine art Bright white by Hahnemuhle, mounted on Dibond - uncoated in shadow frame, Hand signed & numbered by the artist edition of 7 - nr 2 25x25cm Carmen De Vos - Artist statement Flying Freelance Portrayer. Purveyor of Exquisite Photographic Peculiarities. Chroniqueur and Archiver. Founder and Editor-in-Chief of the late TicKL-Magazine. The Belgian artist Carmen De Vos is a slow photographer. She registers, portrays and thinks up odd stories. She shoots Polaroids to frame these mental escapades, they get so easily out of hand. She enormously longs for what she’s afraid to loose: real human contact, the slowness of being and creating, the tangibility of materials. Almost without exception she uses old Polaroid camera’s, long time expired film and self-made filters. Her tools and methods - such as film bleaching and deliberate film obstruction - are not precise and are not even geared towards a perfect representation. They often yield results - such as colorisation, deformation, unsharpness - which she could never have predicted on forehand with any certainty, because their flaws do not allow for calculation. She’s not in control. She fights the material. She plans, stages and directs but the decayed chemistry and off-focus lenses add their magic. All by themselves. Which merrily surprises her. Or ruins her image. This battle attracts her as much as it frustrates her. She loves to create within these limitations, to try to produce the best possible image within the narrow circumstances given. Luckily, she’s a sucker for imperfections. Once upon a time she found herself guilty of home-crafted mischiefs for TicKL, her English art porn Polaroid magazine. She never really got cured from naughtiness. She can’t help but traveling back to these blessed times of free-love photography...

Architectural photo - Casa Rosada Buenos Aires I
By Candida Hofer

The German photographer Candida Höfer is renowned in the contemporary art scene for her large-scale photographs of opulent architectural interiors. Her examples are almost exclusively devoid of people and many artists since mimic her approach. Casa Rosada Buenos Aires I documents the design and grandeur of the mansion that serves as the executive office of the President of Argentina. Höfer is familiar with the city and has photographed many of its significant landmarks, including the Teatro Colón...

ARTIST BIO: John Duckworth’s works transcend the line between realism and abstraction. His photographs are infused with an intimate knowledge of nature, a passion for pure color, and a rhythm drawn from life itself. His trademark style involves abstracting the photographic image to lend the work a much lauded painterly appearance. By providing the viewer a sense of place, yet obscuring the details, he allows each individual to step into the image and bring forth their own visual history. The ensuing narrative is enriched through the power of memory, infusing a personal creative process with universal appeal. More recently, his long-standing meditation practice inspired a new body of work culminating in an exhibition entitled "AWAKE" - an immersive multimedia experience guiding each visitor through eight sequential rooms and over 90 original works of art, while wearing wireless headsets playing ambient audio composed for each room. This work is multi-layered and diverse, including photography, painting, screen-printing, airbrush, spray paint, audio, video, design and performance. “I wanted the exhibition to be alive - as I sat in meditation 2-5 hours a day for two months I was changing, transforming myself as part of the process.” John Duckworth lives and works in Johns Island, South Carolina and New York City. ARTIST STATEMENT "I believes in 'life as creative process', and my ever-evolving creative process mirrors my varied personal interests and explorations. This body of work evokes the sea, forest, marsh, and sky in rich bands of saturated color whilst telling a unique story of the horizon through both aesthetic and process. These photographs capture the essence and natural beauty of the Southeastern coastal landscape. I seek inspiration from a plethora of sources such as the vivid colors of Thiebaud, the quiet solitude of Hopper, the still scenes of Jean-Luc Goddard, the captured moments of Cartier-Bresson, the serenity of Rothko, the diversity and range of Richter, and the endless juxtapositions of Albers." Abstract photography, blue, motion, etherial art, statement photography, living room art...
