Born in 1957 in Neuilly sur Seine, Stéphane Couturier currently lives and works in Paris.
In 1994, Stéphane Couturier showed his first works in a series called 'Urban Archaeology', viewing the city as a living organism with multiple aspects. He photographed it deliberately avoiding anything that suggested poetry, nostalgia or strangeness. From 1999 on, Stéphane Couturier was increasingly drawn to suburbs and began to focus on a different type of landscape: on the one hand, by tackling housing blocks and high-rises in his 'Monuments' series; on the other, by photographing mushrooming housing developments.These generic cities soon became his favorite subject.
In 2002, the uniformity and repetitiveness of these landscapes around the world drove him to begin working on the concept of the polyptych: the combinations and interchangeability of each of the elements in a polyptych give rise to a play with 'Landscaping' (the title of a new series), with the spectator recomposing a landscape between reality and fiction.
WStéphane Couturier series ‘Melting Point’ presents a Toyota assembly plant in Valenciennes (France). Emphasizing the cycles of construction and demolition endemic to modern industrialized life, the photographs possess dynamic vertical and horizontal lines, elegant curves, and brilliant effects of light and indigenous colour. Using a large-format camera, Couturier creates crisply detailed prints that expand the viewer’s awareness of how a photograph can look and how urban occurrences can be conceptualized. Each picture is printed from a sandwiching of two moments in time, creating highly abstract yet precisely detailed images. People, machines, car parts, wires and more all compete for the viewer’s attention—images of industry simultaneously out of control and in perfect harmony.

Founded 1952, General Dynamics hired Nitsche as Art Director – a Swiss (1908 – 1998) educated at the Collège Classique in his birth town Lausanne and at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Munich. 1934 he emigrated to the United States and became an incredibly versatile graphic designer whose work became exemplary modernist.
General Dynamics for its part focused on – amongst others – aerodynamics, aerospace, electronics and nuclear power. So here the company had a problem: Only a few years after Hiroshima and Nagasaki it wasn’t exactly the simplest thing to explore nuclear energy and not to be suspected of developing weapons of mass destruction.
The International Conference on the Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy 1955 in Geneva was a great opportunity to be seen as a provider of peaceful technology. The guys in charge chose Erik Nitsche to communicate this message.
He created four poster series. Atoms for Peace was the first consisting of eleven posters. The second was made for the Conference 1958; these posters are titled Exploring the Universe and represent different aspects of technological research. Nick Knight is among the world’s most influential and visionary photographers. He has worked on a range of often controversial issues during his career – from racism, disability, ageism, and more recently fat-ism. He continually challenges conventional ideals of beauty.
Knight made fashion history in November 1993 by adapting ring-flash photography to capture Linda Evangelista for a landmark, post-grunge cover of British Vogue. Since then, his work has graced no fewer than 36 covers. He has shot advertising campaigns for Jil Sander, Louis Vuitton, Calvin Klein, Yves Saint Laurent, Vivienne Westwood, Alexander McQueen and Christian Dior to name a few. He has also shot record covers for David Bowie, Paul Weller, George Michael and Massive Attack.
Knight’s work has been exhibited at institutions such as the Victoria & Albert Museum, Saatchi Gallery, The Photographers’ Gallery, the Hayward Gallery and recently the Tate Modern. Knight has also turned his hand to directing music videos - Pagean Poetry by Björk in 2001 being his first and, most recently, Kanye West’s Bound 2. He directed the video for Lady Gaga’s hit single Born This Way in 2011. Both the song and the video aimed to empower and show solidarity within minority groups, a common theme in Knight’s work.

Fire, earth, and metal: these elementary forces played a very important role in the oeuvre of Otto Piene. After many years of artistic productions in 2006, he discovered a new material for his artworks: ceramic.
"With my artworks I want to transmit energy” — Otto Piene
He created wonderful mural reliefs in ceramic. He dropped viscous varnish through different raster-barriers on a prepared clay platter. Not only the setting of the platinum drops creates the individual and unique look of each work but also their convex and interleaving forms. The slight convexity of the platinum varnish drops reflects the light and gives the artwork a discreet white shine. Otto Piene is one of the most important German post-war artists. Born in 1929 Otto Piene was brought up in Lübeck (Germany) and, after his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and Düsseldorf, he completed his academic education with studies on philosophy at the University of Cologne. In 1957- Otto Piene and Heinz Mack founded the group ZERO; which Günther Uecker joined in 1961. Their aim was to create a recommencement of contemporary art, starting at the point ZERO with new artworks emphasizing predominantly on light. Piene primarily aimed in his artworks to visualize light, fire, and air; so he started to create Op-Art inspired raster paintings, followed by smoke and fire...
