'Can Hats Favor Fire? Can a Hat Aspire to Higher Things?, ' by Mark Gilmore
Located in Oklahoma City, OK
The full frontal female figure is suspended in mid-air with both arms in motion, seemingly about to jump off the canvas. The blurred figure is set against a clear, graphic backdrop of reds, black and other dark tones with a turquoise rectangular box framing the torso of the figure. A simple black wooden frame frames the work. "I have been active in telling stories with images for over 45 years. My fascination with shapes and textures are my earliest memories and everything I have done in my adult life has revolved around these interests. I learned a lot about color, composition and story telling by stripping all sentimentality from these elements and using them for more than 25 years as a designer. Although I enjoy the challenge and variety of commissions, my own work is very personal. My work has always been about expressing the otherness and mystery just underneath everyday life. Reacting to the ephemeral nature of life and mortality. All of my personal paintings are just different ways of expressing one moment, one feeling. I’m describing a place I’ve never been with a language I’ve never spoken but I’ve spent my whole life trying to get there because its my home." -- Mark Gilmore...

Vibrant Acrylic on Canvas Surrealist Erotic Flowers Painting Christine McGinnis
Located in Surfside, FL
Christine McGinnis LaPelle (American, 1937-2019) Title: Cords Materials: Acrylic on canvas Markings & Inscriptions: Hand signed bottom center 37 X 37 Hangs in a diamond shape An acrylic on canvas painting depicting erotic fleshy abstract forms. Christine McGinnis LaPelle, award winning artist, co-owner of Rodger LaPelle Galleries, artist and printmaker. McGinnis was the wife of fellow artist and printmaker, Rodger LaPelle. Together for over 60 years, they paved a way of life for new and upcoming artists in the Philadelphia arts community. A carriage house in Germantown in Awbury Arboretum was their home for over 50 years where Christine painted in her studio there. This was from the estate exhibition of the Rodger LaPelle Galleries, Philadelphia, PA, Entirely Absurd. Rodger LaPelle and his wife Christine McGinnis first emerged on the Philadelphia art scene by establishing a fine art printing studio. Here, they employed local artists and recent PAFA and art school graduates, ultimately founding the Rodger LaPelle Galleries in 1980. Representing such artists as David Lynch, Peter Paone, Paul Wunderlich, and Tom Palmore, among many others, the gallery established a distinct presence in the Philadelphia artistic community by offering works characterized by an absurdist surrealist aesthetic, often vacillating between the darkly surreal and hilariously nonsensical. Sci fi, robots, comets, space and animals all figured in this colorful jumble of surrealism, fantastic realism and whimsy. RobitSuch works transport their viewers to places unfamiliar, perhaps haunting, revealing the artists' strange and disturbing impulses. Artists who have exhibited at the Rodger LaPelle Galleries in Philadelphia include Rolland Becerra, Jimmy Bellew, Rachel Bess, and Alex Cohen. Additional artists who have shown their work there are Nick D'Angelo, Robert Waddington, Fred Danziger, Christine Cathers Donohue, and Bruce Evans. Other artists include James Farrah, David Febland, James Feehan, Clark Fox, Santiago Galeas, Reza Ghanad, Jason Godeke, Heather Godlewski, Paul Gorka, and Red Grooms. The gallery has also featured Allan Grow, Sandra Hoffman, Simon Huelsbeck, Sarah Hunter, Paul Kane, Jenny Kanzler, Brian Keeler, Judith Lamb, Terrence Laragione, Jeanine Leclaire, and David Leonard. Girl
Located in White Plains, NY
'Girl' 2003 by American artist, Kim McCarty. Watercolor on paper, 29.875 x 22 in. (framed). This work on paper expresses the fragile vulnerability of adolescence. By using a “wet into wet” watercolor medium the artist conveys the transitory and emergent state. The figures heads become too large for their small, narrow bodies, their hands too large for their arms. The translucent watercolor expresses both the flaws and perfection. Kim McCarty is known for her nubile and waif-like figurative watercolors in muted hues, which she likens to “blurry afterimages drifting past closed eyelids.” McCarty began working with the medium in 1993, after a fire destroyed her studio and she could no longer find a space with proper ventilation for working with oil paint and became quickly intrigued with watercolor’s transparency, immediacy, and “unforgiving qualities.” She works in a wet-on-wet technique, in which watercolor is applied to a moistened sheet of paper—a technique that allows for very little control over the final image because of the pigment’s tendency to spread. For McCarty, this style corresponds to the longing, loss, and vulnerability embodied in her subjects. A graduate of UCLA (MFA) and the Art Center College of Design, Pasadena (BFA), McCarty has had many solo exhibitions include Morgan Lehman Gallery, New York and David Klein Gallery...

LOVE AT FIRST PIPE
Located in Los Angeles, CA
YURI MARTINEZ RAMOS "LOVE FIRST PIPE" OIL ON CANVAS, SIGNED CUBAN-AMERICAN, C.2006 20 X 16 INCHES Yuri Martinez Ramos was born in Havana, Cuba on November 24, 1964. He studied at the Elemental School of Plastic Arts from 1975 – 1979 and the National School of the Arts from 1979 – 1983. Martinez’ figurative paintings have been compared to Botero because of his satirical social commentary. His style, however, is uniquely his own with typically vibrant Latin colors and use of expressive magical realism. His paintings tell his story and the story of the Cuban dilemma. Martinez was granted permission by the US Justice Department after much effort with Cuban authorities to come to the US with his family and pursue his career outside Cuba. He now lives and works in Texas. Papillon Gallery...
